Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
I used to be a bimmerforums.com and dtmpower.net member. I sold my 98 M3 (Hellrot on Modena) for this Evo 8 and to tell you the truth I dont regret it. I thought my M3 handled so good until I drove this thing. This is the only Japanese car (other than a Skyline) that I could see myself driving.

As another former M3 owner, I too can say the Evo just feels RIGHT! It's a wonderful tool to use, moreso than the M series from BMW IMO.
Yup the clutch feels a little goofy, especially in that 6K+ range where shifting in the bimmer was so positive. I think the steel clutch line and removed restrictor should "fix" this.
The Evo is just so much more rewarding to drive at less than 8/10s, which makes it a BLAST to drive on the street, it's "safer" to get a little silly in it.
I think there's more room in it than the E36 M series. And it feels more solid (wow...is all I have to say) than the E36...but then again most argue that the E30 was stiffer. Whatever...this Evo is awesome, feels as solid as my old E46, but way more communicative (is that a word?).
Not sure how much has to do with the terrific sneakers it comes with though.
The last time I felt some real goodness from a Japanese car was my old Sentra SE-R, beautiful engine. Great handling for a FWD barney fifer mobile. The EVO has a neat feel to it...very, um put together - like they've had lots of time to listen to feedback and just make a great tool. I keep saying tool because I still feel the Evo lacks something, but maybe I was just in the mystique of the BMW M Roadster or E36 M3, maybe I just need to get to know the Evo better. Whatever it is, this is the FIRST car I've been able to click off an EASY 500 miles a day...just goofing around!!!! The seats are incredible....I'm sorry to hijack..just just have to share.

Haha even if i didnt like the evo i wouldnt come here and start bashing the car...
yea, there is a leather package, it was like 2000$ extra. if you want me to prove it ill find a pic somewhere...
aww common revving to 6k isnt bad. I let the engine warm up and stuff, i didnt do it right out of the dealer.
and for driving the STi... I would but i cant stand the looks of that car. That hood scoup looks horrible
Ive autocrossed my M3 for about a year now and it does extremely well. With a nice aftermarket suspension its still one of the best autocross cars.
My dad also has a new M3 with an SMG transmission (i know some people think its garbage but you have to drive it) and I get to drive it every once in a while. Im curious to see how an Evo will hold up against one of these. I think that stock vs stock, M3 would win...but because it seems so easy to squeeze power out of that 2.0l enigne in the evo, a couple mods would put it in front.
The thing with M3s and most BMWs in general is that they are GREAT cars to drive, even though they might not be the fastest cars on the road.

I finally did it. Got the evo after waiting months to sell the si and put a nice down payment on her. This car is simply amazing. I love it. Simply put, RAW! I have to order the braided clutch line and probably call it quits until I buy my house in Vegas. Then the modding will begin.
I'm actually at a loss for words. I'll get back to this post when I come to my senses!
