Woah, Im total baffled still by some of the evo owners in here. From m3 to m5 and the some other nice sport cars out, and trade that in for an EVO is totally making me loving my EVO a bit more. Although I do wish that I could have bought something else with more looks to it, but I'm falling in love with my EVO more and more now. Hey, you guys should check out the EVO vs 911 issue from sport compact cars. The EVO won the compitition hand down. And I found that not bias at all. I told some of my friends about ppl are trading in their m3s and m5s and such to get the EVO, and they would laugh at me saying that those are probably 89 or realli old bimmers. THey dont really understand the potential of the EVO, and I still couldnt understand myself. Im still learning and trying to understand the car better to better my driving skill. Well, for the guys who traded in the m5 to get the EVO, cheers

I sold my NSX of 6 years to get a evo. I kept the NSX because I could not find a car that was any better for less them 100k no joke. I still like the NSX people a lot and am going to hang out with 12NSX's this Saturday as well as a BMW track event with a friend who has a Supercharged NSX. Get what you want and don't care about what others think. I like the EVO because it gets less looks then the NSX or Rx-7 I used to have. If you want looks get a 360. EVERYONE will look but get used to having it in the shop for months at a time and only 1-2 places to take it. Also the P cars are nice but I don't like the balance of the car that much. I tell you the evo is ONE OF THE BEST. I did look at all of the others. As I told my friends I can trash 4 EVO's from the price of a new 996TT plus It's always fun beating others in a 4 door mitsu. :-)

Learn how to invest. Then you can work IF you want and have all off of the cars he has if you want. Daytrade futures the ES man that's where it's at.

Potential Convert, Straighten me out

Hello all,

I am looking at a new car. My goal out of the project is 350-400hp out of a 4 cylinder. Now, I have realistic expectations of cost and time etc. But I was hoping your all might guide me in the right direction.

Of course I had have looked at a brand new Evo, but dropping 30g’s on the car would mean I would have to wait sometime before I could start to modify it, and modifying is all the fun.

So basically I was wondering if someone can tell me spec to spec, if I get a Lancer OS lower the compression and put a turbo on it, will I have the same car as the EVO? I am a Honda guy, so when I was looking at turboing my Accord, I was looking at about 6 grand for everything I would need to turbo it. Does this dollar amount still hold true for a turbo running between 10-12 PSI? (This amount includes, turbo, cooler, lines, mani, BOV, upgraded fuel, timer, and boost gauge?

Do you think I would be better off buying a used Lancer and then putting the extra money into the turbo etc? Or do the new ones have things the older ones, (2000 up) don’t have.

R the two cars, Lancer and Evo the exact same car side from the engine mods? Or are there differences as well..
Thanks

There will be much more lengthy andin-depth answers to this, but no, they are not the same car. Basic unibody is the same, yes. But the differences are too numerous to describe.

Yes, turboing an OZ is an option. One member here, Boe, runs an RRM kit and hes running high 13's, but I think hes a good bit faster than that now due to other mods. I will leave others to go in more detail. Good luck. 6 grand will be a good start to a fast OZ.

are you kidding...?

you couldn't get a standard Lancer up to spec for less than 50G's... and i'm not talking about the power...

you gotta thinnk AWD, and simply the way this car handles is not going to be easily duplicated...

Apples and oranges, just like the Acura Integra GSR vs. the Type R. Same basic unit body design off of different production lines, due to the different panels and structural members used. Different meaning heavier gage suspension attachment points, and other key points in the body structure. This old man bought both the R and the Evo after researching the **** out of them both. To give you the Honda equivalent, GSR chassis flexes like a wet noodle compared to the R chassis (My GSR still kicks the ever-loving-**** out of my Evo in a straight line). I would suspect that the same applies here as with the Evo compared to the Lancer since it too has a modified chassis.

the only thing the 2 cars really share are sheetmetal from the roof, trunk lid, and front door skins...

other than that, they are not simliar in any other way except name...

...or as copied from the Jan. 2003 press release...

"Body
To improve handling stability and perceived driving quality over its predecessor, Evolution VIII’s body underwent an exhaustive program to increase structural strength and stiffness efficiently and effectively, pinpointing those areas giving the largest gain in strength for the smallest increase in weight. The upper and lower body join, a major factor in overall torsional stiffness, has been strengthened with the addition of large reinforcements to inner and outer panels at the bottom of the center pillar. For Evolution VIII, the front deck crossmember attachment point reinforcement at the foot of the A-pillar on the driver’s side is complemented by a similar reinforcement on the passenger side. Body panel joins have been strengthened with the addition of reinforcements at the top of the front strut tower and on the upper and side surfaces of the rear wheel house and by increasing the number of spot welding points. Suspension mounting stiffness has also been uprated by strengthening the middle of the strut tower bar and its point of attachment to the body. Producing significant increases in body strength and stiffness, these reinforcements tangibly improve perceived driving quality..."

um i think u should do a bit more research before u even consider a evo ICULOST cause the fact that u asked if a lancer and an evo was the same showed that u know nothing about the car. the evo isnt exactly an average car and it takes a lot of consideration being that it's handling is great at the cost of rider quality. a lot of my friends love my car while other well lets just say they carry a bag with them when ever they ride my car. i have driven hondas with stiff suspension but this is by far the stiffiest i have driven.
plus if u plan to fix up a car, the evo is pretty much out there already so u have time to play around with it stock until u save enough money for mods. like me, i am currently saving enough money to get the full c-west kit. it is gonna take time but stock evo is a hell of a drive.
finally i will have to say that fixing the lancer to become equal in terms of power only will cost u a lot. in terms of handling and 4wd, then it will cost u an arm and a leg. with u even think about a engine swap, u might as well just have bought an evo to begin with
