LoL, same gripe here too, I love the STi gauges, but nothing else =) I was super excited to hear about the STi when I had my WRXs, but while great cars I did not like the Subaru approach to handling and greater performance that I wanted.

First post. Heya all.

Ok, I've pretty much decided... I'm gonna buy an EVO. I've been lusting after this thing for a couple years now. Before it came out I was considering a WRX, but now that the EVO is out in the US... I'm going for it. I testdrove one a while ago and I think I almost cried. It was just so dang fun to drive. Now I have two questions:

1. EVO's have been out a while now... and I'm guessing that paying WAY over MSRP is a thing of the past. What is a decent price for a new EVO? What should I try to talk the guy down to? What's the max I should pay before I hit the 'getting screwed' level?

2. How possible, easy and expensive is it to replace the front end of the EVO VIII with an EVO VII fe? I'm just talking about the body (cosmetics) here... the first thing I'm gonna do when I get the car is rip off that Pontiac nose and put on an EVO VII front end. Does anybody have info on how I can do this? Where I can get the parts? How much it will cost? etc? The EVO VII just looks so sweet... I can't get used to the EVO VIII front side.

I'm saving up some money right now. In a few months... she will be mine. I'll drop a post in here the day I get it.

I'm glad I waited on the market for the price to come down. I am anticipating getting my EVO this week. Just a few more days of wearing down the Mrs. and getting her into the car for a test drive and my 350 is out and the EVO's in!

here's the thing, the 04's are coming out in april, maybe may, so the dealerships are willing to work on pricing now. one dealership here in southern ca is offering the evo (w/carbon wing and no sunroof) for $26995 (plus ttl), so i'm thinking that getting the car for invoice these days is definately doable. there are stories of people getting them for under invoice, but from what i can tell, they're just that: stories.
anyhow, i think the bottom line now is that if you can get an evo for invoice, you did great. if you got it for close to invoice, you still did dern good. either way, the bottom line is that you got an evo!
i would think that if you paid msrp at this point, you're getting screwed...

I paid 27,5K, no sunroof, w/ a cf spoiler, Dec. 17. I'm in S. FLA. and I think I could have gotten them down another 500.00. I looked up the evo on cars direct.com and discovered a dealer in N. Broward selling them for 26,6K w/out the spoiler. It may be worth the travel to come down b/c I think there are a few left in broward/west palm.

Thanks for the info. From what I could find, invoice is: $26,891

So if I can get it at or around that price... I'm doing ok? I'm considering getting it w/o the spoiler so maybe they'll drop the price a bit. (Although I do want the sunroof.) The big wing looks a little too 'racerboi' for me. I'm buying this car for it's performance, not to impress people. I'm not 17 years old anymore... The small spoiler is more my style.

afaik, we dont anymore...

oh, and evo-lust-viii, imo, i'd say that if you can get it for that price, you did good. but also keep in mind that since the 04's are coming out, the 03 stock is getting limited, so you may not be able to pick and choose options or colors. and the way i see it, the longer you wait, the more leverage you will have. i haven't tested that yet, but it seems reasonable to assume that.
and btw, i'm opposite, i want the wing, and no sunroof
for some reason, i think the big wing makes the car look better (unlike with the imprezas where i think it looks much better without the wing). looks more balance, but you know, different strokes...

oh, and the way i look at it, either way, it's a good time to get an evo... about a year ago, dealers were asking upward to $15k above msrp, so invoice is OUTSTANDING in comparison.

i'm shooting for next weekend to start really sitting down with dealerships and hammering out prices. i'll let you know how that goes... hopefully the numbers i've been throwing around have been realistic

Got my Evo this weekend!

Hey guys, been reading the forum for months and got my evo this weekend. I wanted one without a sunroof, but ended up getting mine with the sunroof since the dealer was willing to work with me on it. It had 24 miles, build date was Sept 2003 (good month I hope) and I got it for 28000 even +ttl with carbon fiber and sunroof, I think this is at or below invoice when you include dealer destination charge anyway. I think I got a steal on the car, what do you guys think? Also, first impressions are that the sunroof doesn't affect handling to a great degree judging by the seat of my pants, bottom line the thing sticks like a son of a *****. I only have 250 miles so far and have boosted sometimes, however I never exceed the magic 5000 rpm mark. I read posts on this and feel that the user manual simply states don't go over 5000 rpm, so I don't. I have only full boosted 300rpm to 4500 rpm maybe 3 or 4 times, I also have been driving country back roads varying rpms and gear braking it down. Hell, I can't wait to run the **** out of this gem, but right now I am obeying the rules (extremely tough to do). Dealer (Colonial Mitsubishi) told me to come back at 1200 for inspection, I left the Mobil 1 in, should I have them change it at 1200 or before or... please let me know. Anyway enough rambling, I love the car as does my wife (thank god) and am honored to be part of this elite group of enthusiasts with a supercarfour door sedan. Thank God for Evo's, and thank god I got one, simply couldn't wait for 2004, dealer said may or june is when they will arrive, might be B.S., but that is what he said.
