You are also going to pay tax on the transfer and tax again when it transfers back to the original person. If your local taxing authority is stupid enough they may let you claim a lowball value and not pay too much tax but then again they may not be that stupid. Possible? Yes. Simple? Maybe not.

Has anybody ever wondered if you get a really good price from a dealer to a point where they aren't making much. Do you think they might sabotage your car?

So that way, you will end up bringing it back for service, and then they will be making their money back?

now that's crazy, i highly doubt any dealerships do that... but then again i wouldn't trust them.

hello! i am from socal and have been looking around too! so, to answer your question in short, yes i think that $30k is fair at this point... and i know that we are talking otd.

here's how i figure it:
Invoice: $26,891.47
Options: $522 (just for fun, i added the wing)
destination: $595
TOTAL b4 tax/title/license: $28,008.47
tax here in cali is what? about 8%, so i figure, thanks to the governator, the price of the car plus 10% is a fair way to determine OTD price (the other 2% composed of title/license):
$28,008.47 x 110% = $30,809.32
(most of the figures i got from kbb)

so, if you can get the car AT invoice, i would expect the otd price to be between 30.5k and 31k for californians, realistically.

since the dealerships are looking to 'get rid' of the 03's, you may be able to get an evo here for $30k otd, meaning that basically you'd have to negotiate the price before ttl below invoice, which would probably take some haggling. considering the circumstances, it seems doable though.

oh, and i just saw that you were interested in the car with wind AND sunroof... which means that you'd have to add about $500 to the figures i threw up there. anyhow, i still think that with that, $30k otd may be doable.

but, the thing is since we're looking at the last stock of '03s, and we're trying to negotiate good deals, you may have to be flexible as far as color and options are concerned.

however, one dealer in socal told me over the phone yesterday that if they didn't have the one i wanted, they were positive that they could get it (i'm sure through a dealer trade or something).

anyhow, hope all this helps,
greg

ps, if you haven't already, check out socalevo.net.

cool jason, good info...

aristal, honestly i haven't heard too much... do some searches, check out socalevo.net and like i said, i think right now invoice is a very fair price to pay for an evo, I WOULDN'T PAY OVER THAT. and of all the dealerships in the socal area, i've heard very good things about huntington beach.
