If it is on Advans and there is snow out or it is very cold, I wouldn't consider test drving it. Summer tires + snow= ummmm fun untill you spin into a median and owe the dealer some money. Not saying your a bad driver, just saying the stock Advans can be pretty scary in snow.
I love my evo 9000 miles and 2 SRT-4's on my kill list. The drivers were nice so they have no reason to be cocky but stock clutch with the SS clutch line and a few other mods. The SRT-4 was about 2 or so cars behind when I shifted into 2nd and I couldn't even see him when I hit 4th.
The SRT-4 is a great car for the money so props to it but above was just my experience.

It is winter here in NY but was about 35 today, so the roads were wet, but not icy. I showed up at the dealer (Carlisle Mitsu) at 12:00 for my appt. George, my salesman was waiting and he got the keys to a silver Evo, which is their test drive vehicle (has over 3k miles on it, so you can thrash it). I'm not very good at stick and the traffic was heavy, so I rode along. Only 3 people at the dealer are allowed to drive it, sales managers and thier lead service tech (I think). Both managers were busy so Dan (small asian guy, very cool) Took me, my bro and George out in it.
First impressions: It is stiff, but very very nice. I liked it alot. I don't think I would have any trouble living w/ the ride daily. If I wanted to ride on air I'd get a Lexus. He casually pulls out and all is well, until we hit the boost and I nearly crapped my pants. It was amazing, all I could do is look at my brother and go "wow". Dan drove it like it was stolen, changing lanes w/ ease and blowing past cars like they were standing still. We got on a large highway and he got it to 120 easily, it pulls hard. Braking was equally good, as we passed two cops and managed to bring it from 80+ down to 40-45 in an insant.
Overall it's a great car, and I really really like it. Of course I will have to drive it, but I atleast know what it's like.
Test drive #2: Mike on the forums (ZeroPoint) is local to me and was kind enough to offer to take me out in his black Evo today too. Was sweet and affirmed even further how great this car is. He is very knowledgable too. Alot different from the guys at dealerships who talk out their *** hah.
I really like the car, and the sensation of speed at boost is incredible. It was quite wet out, so no fast cornering, but I could feel its potential. If the acceleration is backseat to the handling, I can't even imagine. My decisions, like so many others is between Evo and STi. I will hopefully get a test drive in an STi early/mid next week so I can say for sure which car is for me.

Help, its Deal Time - EVO or STI
I know all of you have heard this issue before but I'm about to buy an EVO or STI this week and would really appreciate your feedback since you have both. I used to only want an EVO becasue I loved its steering and tight handling. I've owned lots of high end sports cars to give you some background on me. I'll provide a link below to some of my past toys.
So recently I've been swaying toward the STI for its power, interior quality and the fact that it may hold its value better since its more rare (at least I think). I've also been told its motor is far superior in terms of being a flat 4. I understand the EVO may mod cheaper but what about the fact that its smaller and stressed so. Will it be a delicate car that can last like an STI?
I have a deal on an STI for 1900 under msrp and a deal on an EVO for about 3k under. So with the premium stereo system added to the STI there is about a 4k price difference form the stock EVO. Is the 1 year newer STI worth that? What about the EVO's longevity. Some folks talk like the car will have issues like the 3rd gen RX7. Fast but breaking all the time.
Looks are subjective. The EVO has a sleek doberman look of speed with the inverted scoop and pointed nose. While the STI has a broader square yet rounded nose, and large scoop giving e a broad square pit bull look.

i could get a STi for invoice but im goin to Mitsu today to go get a Evo.. i drove both and the evo just seems more comfortable... and I i think the evo looks 10x's better...
Like they have said lots of times, you cant go wrong with either. I love both and i was in your situtaion when i was undecided . I tested both cars, and just fell in love with the EVO superioir handling (STI seats sux bit time by the way)
The difference is just 30 HP, you can achieve that very easy, a think a ECU reflas will do the trick, and is only like $500 bucks.
In regards to reliabilty....the EVO engine is strong and it has been out for long while...EVO are famous in Japan for this...i have seen 400+ EVO with stock block and no internals, so they respond to mods very easy with out problems...but dont get me wrong the STI is a sick car, is just a matter pf preference
You want to mod?....take the EVO
You want to keep the car stock?....get an STI
Good Luck

hope you know... the sti pings badly from stock. do u think an engine that pings will last long? or how about an engine that is tried and true? in my opinion you go for which dealer gives you the best deal first.... i love the evo but if i had the sti i wouldnt be *****ing either
I'm not getting a subaru radio. Its a full custom aftermarket setup designed specifically for that car by one of the better audio shops in the area.
And if you have an STI, do you have an EVO too? Or are you just dipping around forums like I do sometimes. NOT TROLLING of course.
