Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
You'd do better off just going and asking about your trade-in than posting here. I can guarantee one thing though. You're going to lose money, and probably lots of it. A good price is MSRP or less. As for the '04's...no clue. Haven't really paid much attention.
The stereos are the same and both standard equipment. Only the speakers are different. The Evo's on the lots will probably have the tall wing too, so you may actually get a better price with it than without it. Whatever the case, good luck and don't stretch you budget too much.

Not really concerned with the money I will lose if I were to trade in the OZ, a car is definitely not an asset, unless it's on blocks 10 months out of the year. I'm just trying to understand if I can afford the bump in payment. It looks as though most on this site pay anywhere from 440 to high 500's depending on interest rate and options. Thanks for the opinions guys. Please keep opinions coming.

That payment differential is more due to how much they put down than it is about options and interest rates.
If your put 0 down on the Evo, you will be making payments near $600 a month. If your owe more on your OZ loan than the car is worth at trade-in, your payments on an Evo will be higher since that risidual will be rolled into your new loan.
And with the initial purchase of an Evo, esp considering you live in the North East, you will have to budget at least $1k for a good set of winter tires that you will have to likely buy within 6 mos of your car purchase. If you are aware that you aren't a great shifter or that you will be drag racing, you will have to budget another $1k for a new clutch within the first 10K miles.
So your first six months of Evo ownership will cost you at least $900 a month. That is not including insurance, gas, or any mod money you put into it.

Thanks for the breakdown but, these things will not apply as I'm not into racing. You may be right about the tire purchase.

Hi guys,
First off I am NOT a troll. Currently, I own a 2002 M3 6spd manual. I enjoy the car but it's not a platform where I can have fun performing mods to improve performance. Also, I feel that for the money, it's not all that great when it comes to price per performance.
For me, brand name and luxury take a back seat to pure performance and price. The Lancer Evo in that regard kicks the M3's butt. If anything, having people oogle at the M3 is not really something I cherish.
I know a lot of M3 owners are a bit fearful of the performance of a car that is 20K dollars less and to justify it they say that the Lancer is an ugly car (this is on the bimmers.org forum). I think that although the M3 is a very tasteful car, the Lancer is most definitely not the "ugly friend" when compared side to side and can hold it's own.
I am eager to get back into the turbo modding (I had a 95 300ZX Twin Turbo before), and the Lancer Evo is such a great deal even compared to the WRX sti (a bit uglier IMHO).
I have never owned a Mitsubishi and have been leary of the quality of the Mitsu. I have read some of the posts here but haven't seen a lot of major problems.
Any feedback or info would help.
BTW, I posted on the Subaru forum this same question, and they basically flamed me because they thought I was rubbing it in their faces and I wasn't really serious. But I am, and in fact, planning to meet up at a Mitusbishi dealer and work out a deal to trade in my M3 for an Apex Silver Metallic Evo.
Sorry for the long post - first time and hopefully not the last.
Brent

The interior quality isn't the best, but just take care of it and it won't get to looking bad. The engine is very reliable. With my current mods, it is my daily driver with close to 19k on the odometer, with no major problems.
I love the M3... my brother has on 03 with some nice mods.... and has the capability to out handle and out perform a stock and lightly modded evo... It just all basically comes down to what you want... and modding the M3 isnt cheap...
The engin is bulletprof, the clutch is a piece of ****, the tranny is strong but not meant for WOT clutchless power shifts. Body is as ridged as a bank vault, and they withstand crash damage very well in the passenger cabin (anything outside the passenger cabin crumples like tissue paper). As silver said, the interior is cheap. If you plan on warrenty work don't...the warrenty is worthless.
This is the perfect car for the enthusiast who plans to mod it and not worry about warrenty.

will my friend has a black M3 2003 with 19" rims infact he got the BBS 20" that look so nice. anyways i bought my EVO the same time he bought his M3. tell you the truth i like the M3 its different it acts like the S2000, it a high reving engine with good power you dont feel it as the EVO but for sure it will perform well with the EVO and most likely pass it over the 110 to 120 miles range. rememeber we are bone stock here. I was going to buy an M3 but one thing stopped me and that is tooooo much money to hook the car up, intake alone is around $700???? . EVO is strong i have 10000 miles on it now drove it from va to CA with no problems at all. the problem that you will face is wraping brakes, rotors because the pads are tooo soft they stick on the rotors so i would recomand changing these from day one. I have noooo problem with my clutch and yes i did race and i am hard on the car, but i know it wont last over 20000 miles because simply thats how they made the car. the interior is way cheaper than the M3 but i dont know why people think it cheaper than the STI??? my firned has an STi and his dash board is cheap as the EVO it does not look like it because they gave it a shiny gloss over it to foll the customer thats it. have you looked at the roof from the inside of the STi?? it's cheap as **** even the clusters in the morning in a sunny day you cant see ****, but i would give the node to the STi clusters at night becaue they have much better lights but they are tooo bright for along drive. bottom line EVO is harsh, racing, annoyng car, its made to go fast and handle great nothing less nothing more so when you buy it dont expect it to change.
