Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
negotiating for my Evo
Guys,
This is my first post and I am dealing for a Blue Evo without a sunroof.... Just wanted to get your thoughts.... The dealership called me and offered me " 500 over invoice" I'm thinking great... Then she tells me 29,200. I tell her that she needs to check her invoice again because I'm showing invoice at 27486.47 including destination charge. I told her that I didn't want to pay over $28,000 for the car.. She said the invoice price I had didn't include the dealerships 300 for advertising... It just doesn't add up.... Let me know what you think...

im pretty sure if u walk in there with a check for $28,000 and explain to them, "this is what all i can offer, i do not feel the car is worth more than this,...take it or leave it".
you are either going to leave a very happy customer, or u will leave with your money, and then proceed to the next dealership.
dont get hosed like i did...
stand your ground.

Get over it on the advertising. You are paying for advertising on everything you buy. The only difference with cars is that the invoice lists it as a separate line item rather than being included in the total like on most products.
Forget about walking in with a check for $28000 and taking home the car when invoice is $300 above that and then you have to add in taxes, license plates, state inspection and whatever else your state charges.
If you want the car go in and tell them you'll pay $28500 plus tax. That's a fair deal for you and a fair deal for them that lets them make a little bit of money. It's also a number that defines what type person you are. I'm certain you believe you deserve a profit in whatever line of work you are in and an offer of $200 over invoice labels you as someone unselfish and reasonable who believes others are as good as you are and also deserve a profit in what they do. If you don't want to offer a small but reasonable profit to them then that labels you as the "I'm better than the other guy and what applies to me doesn't apply to anyone else" type that everyone hates.
Buy your car at a reasonable level and enjoy it, that's what it's all about. Congrats on the Evo and good luck with the purchase.

Dude-
Business is business. Offer them whatever you want. I plan on offering below invoice, in a few weeks here. Dealers that have multiple cars are in an especially hard spot. They have inventory of cars that are hard to sell, and will soon be receiving the new model year. If the dealer has more than one EVO low ball them for sure. Tell them they can then sell their other car for a profit.
These guys are almost always out to screw you, don't be afraid to stick it to them.

Whatever your consciene lets you do... or not do for those who don't have one.
Theirs nothing wrong with being a ***** when buying a new car, if you notice the salesteam at a dealership trying to screw you, screw back, theirs absolutely nothing wrong about lying to a dealer to get a better price, of course your going to have these people telling you "look what kind of person you are by acting this way...", Who Cares what they think about you, you gotta look after #1 and your wallet, they just dont like the fact that your ruining their game plan in sqeezing every last dollar out of you in fees.
I could really care less if a dealer makes profit, I care about what I pay, nothing wrong with taking advantage of somebody elses stupidity to get ahead, especially in the automotive business.
Your not being selfish, your simply looking out for yourself and paying as little as possible. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with getting up and walking out of a deal, theirs always another dealership out their looking for your business, no matter what.
Wait until the last day of the month, walk into the dealership with a non-negotiable offer (say $200 under invoice), and simply promise a same-day-sale if they choose to meet your offer, if not, walk out. You'll have the dealership cornered that way to make some last sales to meet monthly quota's.

All in all when I went and bought my EVO I neg. my best deal with in a time frame signed my paperwork and left with my bright shiny new EVO. I could have gotten a better deal, I financed it so what was another couple hundred dollars??? When I left the sales manager was my friend the service manager was my friend I was happy. Now who do you think is going to get taken care of when I need something? The guy that was a dick over $400 or the guy that left as a friend?
