Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
If you are worried about reliability, keep it stock. Should be fine. I had a Honda S2000 before this and I am not worried about the Evo's reliability any more than I worried about the S2K. With the extended warranty, you should have no worries, no mods either.
I have heard about clutch and trans problems, but I haven't had any. I think a lot of these people are doing drag launches and stuff. I drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic to downtown LA every day and I haven't had an issue with either. I have a lot of mods and drive hard when I want to, so it's not an issue of not pushing the car. Take the problems for what their worth - it's a lot of talk. If you get the extended warranty, you will be covered for a long time...
If yer more worried about reliability, I would say get a Honda, if yer not worried about replacing your clutch and dropping a nice double plate one in after 20k miles, buy an EVO...
I plan to drop in a heavy duty clutch sooner or later.

Hate to say this but I agree you should go for a honda or acura if you want reliablity. However if you dont race or beat on your car a lot, you should be able to do okay with an evo. The clutch is weak no doubt, so you will have to expect to replace that.
Here's another way to look at it: The parts in this car will break/wear out/whatever, but the good news is that most of the good replacement stuff is cheap and very durable. I am not upgrading my clutch, turbo, rotors, etc. ad nauseum until they break or wear out. 20,000 miles sounds like a reasonable expectation for the clutch to last, however the S2000 clutch was supposedly weak and I had 60,000 miles on it. It's all a matter of how you drive, what your priorities are (speed vs. reliability), etc. It's not like the Evo is unreliable - just budget a little for parts if you aren't under warranty.
yeah i already have a honda but honda is not that reliable neither once you get to the EVO power level...
ill do more homework, i guess. thanks for the advice guys...
more are welcome if you have more...

If warranty is what you want, Geico has an added coverage called mechanical breakdown (only available for new cars), that covers more than what the manufacturer covers, plus aftermarket parts. For me, I pay $34/6months for the added coverage. In 7yrs, I will pay $476, far less than the shoddy dealer extended warranty that barely covers anything.

I see you are looking at the NSX as well, I had one for 6 years and it's great, but get ready to get new tires every 4k miles in the rear and that is really about it. Oh the clutch is weak as well and that's 2200 from Comptech and the install is about 500 I think. I put in about 15k into the car in aftermarket and it was a fun car. Evo will have a warr with it and if you are tight on cash for the EVO the 75,000 NSX is out of you price range. I also feel the EVO is a great car to mod but I am going to take it slow this time around and not go crazy like I did with my Rx-7. Put 20k in it and it blew up. lol fun fun
Reliability all comes down to how you drive and service your car.. I had a 93 Eclipse GSX, that I bought with 30k on the odometer.. I finally sold it with 136k on the stock internals with the car pushing the 11 sec 1/4... 12.18 best... I know they say the the Eclipse isn't the same, but the EVO has better parts to start with.. But like I said, it's all how you drive and service your car.. Treat it like **** and it'll be ****..
Lucky enough, I seem to be one of the RARE individuals here that have absolutely NO problems with their EVO whatsoever... Believe me, I do not drive slow and easy!! But the choice is up to you..
Also, people talk all about Honda's are so reliable, well... My father owns a Japanese auto repair shop and I can tell you.. They have their problems as well.. And they are not purpose built cars either.. Other than the NSX and S2000, which both spend plenty of time in the shop, Honda's are not built to beat up on.. Sorry if this seems to have become into a rant, but that's just my .02

and no biggie with voicing your opinion about a specific car.
i take no offense to that.
i guess all i need to figure out is if im really set to spend 30K on all performance car and not much of luxury... its gonna be my first car over $20K...
