However, if you plan to go the track, auto-cross, etc, I think you will appreciate the Evo much more.
True dat, on all points...

See but...

One of my good freinds opted for the SRT-4 purchased the STage 1. We race and yes he beat me but not like that guy did to that EVO. He got the jump in the middle of 2nd and pull no further then a quarter car length.

If you want a spirited performer with a more luxurious interior and more reasonable price tag, check out the Volkswagen R32. It will be here next month. I had a deposit down on one from the time I heard it was coming stateside. It's not all that fast in comparison, but it's AWD and the 3.2l VR6 engine is capable of insane performance with modifications (see HPA Motorsports ).

I obviously bought an EVO instead. I've long been a fan of turbocharged cars and the 4G63 engine. The EVO is an uncompromising performer that will put a smile on your face everytime you drive it. Trust me, you'll soon forget all about the mutant styling and sh¡tbox interior.

Absolutely no regrets!

Traded my STI for an evo

Well, today I traded my STI for an EVO.

I was convined after a quick test drive. Both cars are truely amazing, but for what I like to do (autocross) the EVO wins out.

Both cars handle like go-carts However, the evo achieves the go-cart status by the precision of it's handling, while the STI gets a go-cart status out of sheer brute force from the DCCD transfering the power where it needs to be.

The Evo is just easier to drive than the STI. With the STI your always waiting for the center diff to figure out what to do, the DCCD is like a huge driving aid. I didn't really like the 6-speed, too many gears, and the alignment adjustments were a disapointment after figuring out that the specs in the service manual were wrong. In a nutshell, the STI has the same camber problems as the stock WRX.

The brakes are about the same, the STI feels a little over boosted, but I have not bedded the pads on the EVO just yet.

The suspension on the EVO feels far superior to the STI. I found the ride to be much nicer in the EVO than in the STI even though the STI has softer spring rates than the EVO. It's not until you get the STI on a rough back road that you realize the heritige of the car. On a rough road, I'll take the STI any day, but since I don't have that many roads like that, the EVO rocks...

Also, I have imediately noticed better gas millage in the EVO. In the STI I could only get 21-22mpg; the first quarter tank would be used in 60 or so miles. With the EVO (new engine, not broken in yet) the first quarter tank went 80+ miles. I'll be really interested in seing what the long term millage will be.

Time for a quick snack, then out for another drive

Welcome to a car that can be modded successfully in both power and handling. And looks better too, IMHO.

Ya should of ordered an 04 Evo RS. You really can't beat the addtional front Limited Slip Diff and the longer warrentee on the 04's. I"m sure the Front LSD will help beat those ZR1's in A stock Well maybe ESP will be easier?

I thought about it, but I got reamed on the trade in as it was, and I didn't want to put more millage on the STI.

The trade in was brutal, almost a deal breaker.

Should of kept the STI and the money you lost on the trade could of gone in too strut bar, sway bar, coil overs, and watever else money you would of had. Then you could of really teared stuff up. my 2 cents

Congrats!

I autocrossed an STI a few weeks ago and your description of the handling sounds dead on. It was fun, but not as easy and predictable as the Evo. My Evo suspension isn't stock, but I raced it stock plenty of times and it was much better than the STi for me. In a few weeks the STI owner is going to be racing my car and i can't wait to get his impressions.

Or you could have posted on here if anyone with an evo wanted to trade cars for your STI??????

Enjoy the notchy,grindy shifter!!!!!!

And let us know if the STI had the same feeling in shifts.

Also how upside down were you on this deal? I would have considered trading you cars/ plus cash,,,,, but that is 20/20 now.

Have fun with your evo,,,, welcome
