Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]

Nothing went wrong with the car itself, but two weeks into it I realized what a terrible design it is. I can go on and on about it but I'll bring up some of the main ones.
1. Interior designed for right hand drive. When they brought it from Japan, they didn't change anything but the location of the steering wheel and pedals. That means EVERY important control is on the wrong side of the console.
2. Traction control you cannot turn off and is VERY intrusive.
3. Xenon lights bounce up and down on their mounts. Makes it look like you are driving a moped.
4. Dash you cannot see, EVER. Dimming feature happens on turning on headlights, rather than on ambient light. This means it goes WAY too dim during dusk and dawn. You can just adjust the dash lights up, but then that means you have 3 switches (navigation too) to hit when turning on the lights. Renders auto lights useless.
5. Pogo stick rear suspension.
6. Auto box is absolutely on CRACK, you never know when its gonna shift and make a scene and it never changes gear on command.
7. Stereo BLOWS, worse than Evo by far and it costs 700 bucks.
8. Placement of secondary controls. Windows in wrong place, seats in wrong place, seat memory useless because you can't reach it.
9. Interior components cheap and show wear.
10. Clock light way too dim and looks terrible at night.
11. Climate control actually blows cold air on you at all times after warm up. Nothing you can do to change it. Dual climate takes too many steps to mess with...wife never did.
12. Brake pads wear out at 15K. Infiniti has offered to cover brakes for 36k becuase of it.
13. Motor sounds like crap is over rated on horsepower, and is harsh above 5 thousand.
14. Forget about driving in snow without some MAJOR snow tires...the thing won't even budge. Open diff and crazy traction control to blame here.

I know that certain aspects of driving are subjective...but I drove the following and still picked the EVO:
Z06, Cobra, STi, S2000, G35, SRT4, Audi TT, F-150 Lightning, IS300...I owned the most highly modified WRX in Michigan (at the time)....I also own a SVT Focus, which is slow, but also a blast to drive.
The EVO was far more fun to drive than any of them...It feels right, and I still don't know how anyone could actually pick a different car if all around performance is the goal.
Don't wait - Live it up now

I heard from my evo tech that this is the last evo , the 8, that will evver be coming over???? we shall see.
If so this will be great for us cause our cars will never take a huge depreciation.
Time will tell

Well being that I have a G35 and an Evo, I probably could answer your question the best. They are two very different cars, and it just depends on what you are looking for in a car.
The G35 is a very good cruising car and has a little power there to go along with it... On the other hand the Evo is a nice car too. However you are giving up a bunch of amnities that the Evo will not have that the G does. If you want speed, get the Evo, but if you want something with a little speed and luxury then go with the G. However, both cars will be a very smart purchase they are both wonderfull cars.. Good luck...

It depends on what you want from a car? The evo could be a little harsh for an everyday car. But it is way fun to drive. There are endless mods for it as well. The STI is more powerful obviously but is a bit more sluggish in the steering. For normal driving the STI might fear better in that it allows more body roll and has a more civilian oriented ride. But thats normal driving and these cars are not made to be driven normally and this is where the evo shines. The evo is made for taking corners at triple the speed posted on the highway
You will look at the road differently. There have been countless articles on both cars and the evo always edged the STI out in the end. Quicker lap times, higher slalom speeds just to name a few
In my opinion I would pick the evo over the STI but if you could "swing" a M3 I would go for that instead
A friend of mine recently sold his evo for a M3 because of the lack of luxury in the evo. I had a chance to drive in them both and from what I could tell the evo has a stiffer suspension and crisper turning, better positioning of the pedals and shift knob(if that means anything to you)
but definitely less luxurious. Though the M3 sacrifices a little performance(not much) it makes up for it in luxury and it also looks better. So if you feel like getting low-down and dirty and wonder why the
service department won't touch the car because you modded the hell out of it and voided your warranty that you didn't care about anyway get the evo which also comes with superb handling(better than the $20K more M3)Look at it this way, there is nothing under $30k that could touch it's performance and only a few above $30k that could beat it(and that's way above like Ferrari and Porshe and those boys)
But if you care about luxury with the sacrifice of a little performance(which is only noticeable on a track) and don't want to look like the 2F2F crowd but rather look like a distinguished gentleman with class and not into the modding and stuff like that which could fear better with the ladies, get the M3. Don't you just hate it when you get an answer that doesn't help you come any closer to answering your question? I do. Happy car picking

i disagree about the evo being harsh for an everyday car. this is not only my first performance car but my first manual transmission. i knew how to drive stick, just never owned one. sure you feel the bumps a bit more, but you dont get any of that bouncing sensation for 5 seconds after hit a bump/rise in the road. i dont really think about feeling the bumps and all that cause i love driving this car every single time i do.
I was in the same position, buy an M3 or an EVO. (The Sti wasn't a consideration, as it just isn't as fun to drive as either). After buying the Evo, I don't feel like a regret not buying the M3. It is more money (but holds resale better), is 2 wheel drive (big deal in the snow), and believe it or not, I like having 4 doors too. But I admit that I was torn on the decision. End the end, I think I have decided the advantages of getting the Evo and they are ones you don't think really think about until you get the car.
Where I live, you can't swing a stick without hitting a BMW, Audi, or MB. When my car drives up, everyone looks, smiles, or reacts in some way to it. Ya, an M3 would be great, but there is NOTHING like an Evo.

I originally thought that the Evo was going to beat my kidneys with it's stiff suspension but honestly I hardly notice anymore. If you're planning to get a pure grocery getter/daily driver, etc and can afford the M3, I say go for it. However, if you plan to go the track, auto-cross, etc, I think you will appreciate the Evo much more.
