Its hard to get into 5th and reverse. bushing?
I have a buschwacker transmission and it runs great
but it has been hard to get into 5th and reverse recently
and i do not mean gears are grinding or clutch issue at all.
its hard like bushing is hard to get over to the right side in general.
1 2 3 4 is fine. but when i try to move the shifter to the right side before you even get into gear, i have to use some force.
Could this be due to bushings getting old?
is it something else thats wearing out?

Bump an old thread instead of creating a new one. I am having same problem? Did you find the solution? I just installed a newly built shep 5 speed. all new shifter bushing greased up. But the shifter is notchy and hard as hell to push to the right to get into 5th and rev.

Haha, Funny that out of all the ones I adjusted were all 6-spd. damn i'm getting old.
just check that the bracket on top of the trans didn't bend when you were working on it.

I had this same issue recently. I couldn't shift into 5th or reverse whether driving the car or sitting idle. I would get a bad grind going into both 5th & Reverse and I tried adjusting the clutch pedal. Didn't work. The tranny was already built by Jack's Transmissions a few yrs ago (4+ yrs) and it currently has an Exedy Twin HD installed but once it gets back from Jacks it will have the new QM 8-leg.
My tranny is currently at Jack's getting fixed and this is what they found when they pulled it apart:
Gears 2-4 had symptoms of overheating. They said either my tranny ran out of fluid (which it didn't) or the fluid broke down and was unable to protect the gears. There was a slight discoloration of these gears.
And this is also what they said (copied/pasted) from their email to me:
"As for the transmission itself, the primary problems are the 5th/reverse synchros, springs, slider, reverse gear, and the 3-4 shift fork. While we are inside the transmission, though, it makes sense to replace all of the springs (only $4 each) and the two seals. The optional parts, which are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, are recommended to be replaced, especially for higher hp applications."
"The synchros for 1-4 are in good shape as are the shafts and the center differential assembly".
Hope this helps but by the looks of it you need to have it fixed. Plan on at least spending $1700 as that's what I was quoted for by Jack's but I am also upgrading some parts if you read the above paragraph so that adds to the cost as well.

For what its worth, I had a problem with this on my 6 speed after I changed to ETS short route uicp and the pipe would stop the linkage from coming all the way up. I had to pull up on the pipe while tightening down the couplers.
Probably not the problem you guys have but someone may have this issue too.
