Agreed. The awesome 6spd with teflon-coated cables, the amazing Bilstein shocks that increase handling AND ride comfort at the same time, the aluminum roof that weighs less and lowers the center of gravity, nor the exclusivity of having one of only 1200 in the world is worth the extra 4k...
All of that doesn't matter when you're gonna drag race it like the rest of us

1st thing - please turn your caps lock off. The button should be to the left of the "A" key.

The MR is it worth it discussion has been debated before, do a search! Also, its a pretty subjective question. Some people dont care much for the wheels/suspension the MR has becase they plan to get aftermarket anyway. For some people, its worth it, some its not. For me, I wanted the leather, the better sound system and the cheaper price (I got mine for 32,750), there was no price budging on the MR for me.

My real interest in the EVO is power/performance so the regular EVO fits me best since the MR has no power advantages.

Only thing I wish I had was the 6 speed transmission. How much cost and work is involved with swapping in an MR tranny into a GSR/RS anyways?

Helix Intake:: Helix Turboback:: MR BOV:: BR FMIC/Piping::
HKS 272 Cams:: Dynoflash Custom Tune:: Volk 18x8.5 TE37/Neovas

346/344 -93 octane-
God I hate 05s, I have every mod that you have, except for the FMIC and the pipes, and you're making 26 more hp, and I was running sunoco 94.

I'm so jealous

Not that it matters cause I still wouldn't run a good time.

I think if you have an 05 it wouldn't be that hard, but I think it gets harder with an 03 and 04 because of the limited slip and the ACD.

The opinions of this forums are well divided. The MR as a package is not a bad deal considering all the good stuff that you get:

- HID lights
-Light weight forged aluminium BBS rims 2.8pounds lighter each rim
-6 speed (better gas mileage, less noise, wider powerband gear combo)
-Biltsein suspension(softer ride but sportier with 30% faster rebound response)
-Vortex generator(better gas mileage more downforce over 100 MPH)
-Triple meter gauge kit
-Teflon coated shifter cables
-Longer clutch springs for softer engagement
-Aluminium roof
-MR exclusive short throw shifter
-MR accents(floor mats, center console plate, aluminium shift knob, carbon fiber emergency parking brake handle )

Plus because being a 05 you get:

ACD
LSD
more responsive turbo(more torque, better spool up,more horsepower, more boost)

Like someone says before, just because the fact you are getting a EVO 8 is already a winning situation.

I know for a fact that most of the people in this forums would rather spend the money difference between the EVO8 and the EVO8MR widely in other stuffs:

Lighter and wider rims
Coilover suspension
engine mods

I don't blame them, it is a great choice, poeple have their preference. If you look the EVO8MR as a package and don't want to mess around much with it, it is s great ride stock, but this topic is very subjective.

My personal opinion is that the extra money is worth for what you get but I would also encourage you to get the RS or GSR evo and custom build it to your preference.

fromWRXtoEVO...good post but I think a lot of those performance features are also found in the RS: aluminum roof, teflon coated linkage, shift knob, etc.

The only way to answer the original posters question is to draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper. On one side write the cons and on the other side write the pros. It will get YOU to thinking and will make for a better decision in the end.

BTW...you're never gonna find an MR owner who says he was ripped off, just as you'll never find an RS owner who says their car feels cheap.

I actually got dyno'd before the FMIC/BR Upper pipe, but I did have a lower IC pipe!

Just get a 10.5 housing, its $200 and an easy 10whp if not more!

I'm trying to make the same decision right now. For the guys who say take the extra $$$ and put it into mods...most people are going to finance that extra and don't have $5K lying around. That argument is only good on a case-by-case basis. There are only 3 or 4 new 05 MRs left on the lots in the country, so trying to get a good deal doesn't look to be happening. I told the dealer Sat. I'd give him 2% over invoice or I'll just wait and get an 06 from a different dealer who said they'd sell me one at 2% over invoice (yeah I know getit in writing).

Life can change a lot, when I bought my EVO MR i was driving a WRX in which I dumped about $7000 in engine parts alone, another $4000 in repairing the tranny twice(At my own expense) and another good $2000 in labor(tunning, turbo install, springs, labor etc).

Botton line is that I was fed up having a WRX which the tranny failed twice so I thought about making a trip to the Mitsubishi dealer.

At the time I was really broke, I spent some of my saving in the WRX tranny repairs, I was hoping to buy the RS or regular EVO8 but they did not have either or however they did have the MR.

The moment I sat on the car, I was inloved, this car had some things that I like already like tyhe triple gauge, the BBS rims and stupid things like that.

From that point I reconsidered my choice and instead of getting the RS or regular EVO8 I decided to get the MR.

I was soo convinced that I like the MR that I even traded my WRX in with a lot of mods, and like I said before, I was broke but I did sacrifice(sold) a 91 GSX in inmaculate condition in order to collect $3000 wich ended up being my downpayment.

So $hity WRX+great GSX= happiness with my MR

The MR is worth the extra money if you have it to spend, if not buy an RS with the 575 dollar option which includes the gauge package, pedals, and similiar shift knob that comes in the MR. You can also get into a RS for about $10K less then the MR, so that leaves you with plenty of money to mod.

Good luck getting 2% over invoice on a IX........you may have to wait some.

Yeah I know. If they agree to it, I'll get it in writing, signed and notarized!
