Good find. That makes me happy even though I don't plan to sell my Evo any time soon.

The original residuals on the Evo when it first came out were abysmal: 39% after three years. This is why no one would lease the cars because it didn't make economic sense. Now we have a residual better than Hondas and BMWs. Go figure.

But it's a Mitsu with crappy warranty service!!! Seriously, that's great to hear. I always believed the EVO will fall into the same category as turboed RX-7's & 300Z's, and Supra's as far as resale value.

Yeah.. Keep in mind after 2 or 3 years, a Warranty doesnt really exist anymore, on the secondary market, people rarely take their car back to the dealer for service or major repairs anyway.. There was also no benchmark for the car prior to 2003 so they could not estimate a resale value and it was unfairly estimated very low. There are also not many similar cars to compare it to to determine its value after a few years.

I still stand by my feeling that this car has the potential to reach the legendary status that the Supras have gotten.. Maybe not from a price standpoint (which is ok) but with all the press coverage, aftermarket support, and ease of making power.. I definitely think that in a few years it would be "The Car" to have if you like imports..

What I predict is the pricing will stabilize, and potentially start going up as good examples of these cars in original condition (and good running cars that haven't been thoroughly beaten) become harder to find. Ok, Its a mitsubishi, but the one thing that this car has is a strong aftermarket that is about performance and with performance means getting parts that would improve reliability. Appearance does come secondary for me..

I'll bet 5 years from now, people will be humping the Evo's like their humping the Supras.. Especially if the car goes through a major redesign or goes away before then..

Where's the STI or SRT cheerleaders?

Maybe they are realizing that Mitsu gave us one hell of a super sedan that's the real deal all for under 30K. The Evo keeps coming out on top.

It's true about modified cars losing more value. When you see a modded import on a dealers car lot, most stay away from it. It's a money pit and you assume the owner ditched it due to problems that they probably brought on themselves. I'm saving all my OEM parts to go back to stock if I sell. Maybe even reflash the ECU back also.

Thumbs up Mitsubishi Evolution 8 Scores as Best Resale Values!

Hey i was just checking out CNN.com in the business section and they had an articles that shows the Evo as one of the best cars that keep their value (sedan cat.) So besides having a sweet car we have one of the best resale values, score!
Check it out

Article:

http://money.cnn.com/2004/08/23/pf/a...alue/index.htm

Then click "our photo gallery" within the article to check out the cars.

It's funny I read that article without clicking the photographs and had no idea our faithful Evo was the sedan representative. It's a rather strange phenomenon when the enthusiast site typically fetches less than the average newspaper ad, but it seems to occur often on EvoM.net. It's probably due to the parent company perceptions and individuals who probably should wait and bank more money before purchasing try to get in at the lowest denominator.

It is definately a good honor to be on that list and goes to show that bang for the buck and limited availability go a long way to maintaining resale values. I hope they keep Evos to 5000 and under per year which is a pretty exclusive class (all models; RS, MR and standard included). For comparison they made 7500 Porsche 911s and E55 benzes last year! Thanks for the info bro!

Need help on EVO's value

Im trying to figure how bad upside down I am in my EVO. After seeing that the '05 EVO is only like $26,900 I am wondering what my '03 is worth...or more precisely, what I could realistically sell it for.

Its a Rally Red '03 with 21k miles and in perfect condition.
New: Tires & Clutch (2000 miles)
Mods: Tint, Alpine CD/Mp3, Ferodo DS2500's, Injen CAI, Greddy lower I/C tube.

No other mods
Have all stock parts (even the old brake pads)

Paint, interior, glass, etc all perfect

Disclaimer: This is not a "For Sale" ad, only a question

2-year resiudal is supposed to be 68%. Figure a bit less on wholesale (60-63%). Detailing your car can help a bit though, as it can add a few percent of perceived value on wholesale deals, as well as full documentation of the car.
