Some people are always looking one step ahead and want the latest and greatest. These are probably the same people who paid some rediculous markups for their EVOs when they first came out. I'll be happy once the MR comes out. That means the "regular" EVOs won't get as much attention anymore, which fine by me!

Either that or they bit off more than they could chew financially.
(those are my "theories")

If the re-sale value of the 2003 EVO VIII is as "rediculously" low as people say it is...imagine how sh!tty it will be on the MR since the MR will probably be untouchable without $40K. And as far as the "regular" EVO's not getting as much attention once the MR comes out is a retarded statement bro. Most people don't even know what an EVO is, let alone an RS, or an MR for that matter. Go ahead an pay $10K for 10hp...oh, and I forgot those pretty taillights too!! And AYC, because there are so many dirt and gravel roads on most major cities in the US!!

Look at the Integra Type R for example. ITRs get stolen way more than "regular" GSRs. MRs will probably get targeted a lot more than regular EVOs.
I would say, shave the emblems and get a non-6speed shiftknob, but that wing is indeed an easy indicater of whether the EVO is a an MR or non-MR. Good and bad I suppose. If you're so concerned about getting your MR targeted, do some cosmetic work to make it look like a non-MR, it is probably a somewhat pricey precaution, but if you're that paranoid, could be worth it.. right?
The evo is not rare, not even close to rare.
rare = Nissan Skyline GTR (atleast in the americas)
Anyways, i think the resale value of evos are holding up pretty well, so well that im gonna have to get an o4 wrx, because I cant find an evo (used) that cheap. Also im sorry, toyota and mitsu are not the only companies pushing units in asia, nissan best mitsubishi by plenty in asia. Its only real comp is toyota. Also as many should know by now, the japanese will always have better than us americans. We will always get the low-balled version. Which is a nice version, but far from what the japanese get, basically its like this...
JDM Evo > USDM Evo

I was offered $21,500 for my 13k mile Evo on trade in PLUS their is a $2k tax saving on the new car. = $23,500.
If your getting $23k on trade in PLUS the $2k tax savings its like getting $25,500 .... I think that is pretty damn good.

2) Would it be cheaper to just buy the cheap base model lancer (non-EVO) and add mods to it to turn it into an EVO? Like you can get an imported EVO engine from japan and transplant it, same with body parts too. For instance like how so many people are taking regular base model civics, integras, etc. and transplanting VTEC engines in them. We can do the same for Lancer base models can't we?
