Do you have any hard evidence to back up what you're saying. I'm not trying to refute you just so i can get the pleasure of disproving you. I'd like the confirmation that MIT's are reliable because I am wanting to buy an EVO. However, JD power assoc's gives MIT's (eclipse, lancers,3000gts) a 2 to 3 out of 5 rating on mechanical reliability. Whereas, hondas and toyotas will get a higher, constant rating. Please disprove my claim (if any) so that i may continue my quest for an EVO. thanks.

That is why I'm trying to catch one on a trade in @ a dealership where i know a sales manager. Subaru and Mitsu resale isn't the greatest.

Toyota supra TT. This 10 year old car with more mileage cost more then a brand new EVO.

2) Would it be cheaper to just buy the cheap base model lancer (non-EVO) and add mods to it to turn it into an EVO? Like you can get an imported EVO engine from japan and transplant it, same with body parts too. For instance like how so many people are taking regular base model civics, integras, etc. and transplanting VTEC engines in them. We can do the same for Lancer base models can't we?
I don't know what will happen with the warranty...I guess we will have to see. I saw that Mitsubishi was given two huge loans from somewhere...

As for the building up of a base model. Yes the engine would probably be more cost effective (used also), but good luck with converting the smaller base model Lancer with the AWD system and suspension components. And the tranny too!

most people like the evo that buy it! If you dn't then that is your pref. but I doubt anyone is going to listen to this non-sense...... And i'm sorry banks in N.NJ will lend you money for a used evo.... and buy a subbie.... quit smoking your breakfast!

I strongly recommend that if uyou are thinking f letting it go...get rid of it now! the whole deal with mitsu being so slow is spooking all the dealers and they do not want any mitsu cars on trade. I know that you guys will all say that you don't care or i would not take that or i am not trading it in...but here is food for thought, Curently no bank will finace a used mitsu evo for a private sale in NJ because theya are afraid that they will be like Daewoo. These cars are nice but beleive me...get out of them asap or you will be so upside down it is bad! buy a subaru if you are thinking of getting an evo(not cause they are better..they are not, but you won't be hurt as bad on resale) i feel bad for you guys that paid over list!!!!!!ouch

Good luck converting over the rear flared fenders. Also, you have to add over 100+ extra welds on the chassis to get the same chassis stiffness. You're basically going to have to tear down the whole base model lancer and build it up from the ground up. It sounds like an interesting project, but I doubt it would be cost effective. The end result will be an EVO hack at best. Still not the real deal and will most likely cost more in the end due to labor and original cost of the lancer. Any type of project of this nature will require a lot of troubleshooting to get it up and running to stock performance levels. If I were to even consider doing something like this, I'd definitely plan it out on paper to see if it'll be worth the time and effort.

Used 03 EVOs can be had for mid to low 20s. I'd just go down that path.

How bout a g35 errr'one?? They use the same engine as a 350z so TT and parts is readily available for that car. Plus it seats 4 as opposed to the 350z. Are there any posts comparing the g35/Evo cars??

Sorry to hear about your bad resale problem. I don't know if any of you read the Kipplinger report or not, but I was just reading it today. IT was stating that Mitsubishi Motors is done in the United States unless someone helps them out finacially. I couldn't believe it. Do any of you think this is the reason for poor trade-in value? Do you think maybe the dealers know something that we don't?

I guess I lucked up. I hassled my local Mitsu dealer something terrible, closing time last day of the month, and got $23.5k trade-in on my debadged, painted-wheels Tarmac Black. Then on top of that came the loyalty bonus & some special rebates, and drove off the lot with a Ralliart for $17k OTD.

For 17k, I would have gotten a used WRX. Going from an EVO down to a Ralliart Lancer must be a serious downgrade in performance, but an upgrade in comfort and gas mileage, while still having the same car essentially.

Or maybe even a new one. My girlfriend scored a new, automatic 04 sedan for 20k recently.
