Resale

My car turned 36000 miles over the weekend. I don't plan to get rid of my Evo any time soon, but I know it will be selling towards the low end of the price range. I hope it's not seen as screwing my fellow owners when my car sells for lower than others. I am going to check on line to see what some high mileage Evos are selling for...

Checked www.autotrader.com and there are two Evo's with 44K miles selling for $20000 and change. Trade in value on those will definitely be in the teens.

There seems to be a lot of Evos for sale. I only looked on Auto Trader and there were more than a hundred choices. Add Ebay motors, used car dealers and private sellers and I'd guess that 5% of the Evos in the US are for sale. Doesn't that seem higher than average?

i just sold my 03 EVO for 24.5k with 7k on the odo. I think I got a great deal considering you can ge the 05's for only a few thousand more.

trouble selling evo!!!!

as sought after a car as the evo 8 is, you wouldnt think you would have any trouble selling one. i have an 03 lightning yellow w/ vis cfh, and about $2000 worth of performance parts and 300+whp. it only has 15000 miles, is in excellent condition. the private party blue book alone is $26000 which is what im asking. i have had it for sale for about 5-6weeks, and have had alot of calls, but nobody wants to buy it?? oh well if i cant sell it i guess ill just have to hang on to it, as parting w/ it is difficult anyway.

selling a modded car, especially one like the EVO is a hard task. If you really want to sell it, you should turn it back to stock and sell the parts. It'll go much quicker that way

people automatically think abuse when they see mods... if it is stock people will have a bit more faith that the car was daily driven.

I agree: I bought a used 03 last year w/ 7500 miles. I would not have bought it if it was modded.

For sale

Come on, most Evos are modified and even if looking for a stock one, you may fall on one that was modded and put back to stock. This is the most comon thing to do. If I were looking for one, I would get one that is modified because it is cheaper than to by a stock one and then modify it. All one has to do is make sure it was not hammer on. 5 to 6 weeks is not that long. Give it more time. Good luck,

Sigfrid

I'm not sure how an 03 with 15k miles could be worth only 3k less than a brand new 05. I'm sure your car has depreciated more than that in 2 years and 15k miles...

KBB says it's worth $23,915 in GOOD condition. It's very unlikely that it fits in the EXCELLENT category, since it has 15k miles over 2+ even if it was garaged daily. If you have the SSL package, it goes up to $24,825. You cannot assume any value for aftermarket parts, so put everything back to stock, sell the car for 24k, then sell the parts for another grand or so on EvoM. That way you'll end up with 25k, and it will all be sold very quickly, but it requires some labor on your part.

parting out will get you some $$, and turning it back to stock also get you more $$$, so why not do it.

If I were you, I wouldnt sell it unless you desperately need to.

An 03 for $26k is too high. $23-24K is about right.

I had mine on the market for about 8 weeks. I finally ended up selling it for 23K. It was an 03 with a sunroof and only 9500 miles on it. For some reason the going rate for these cars is falling below blue book.

You have got to be kidding. I'll bet that only a fraction of all Evo's sold are actually modded in any significant way. (like a new exhaust, flash, etc). Even if the if the Evo is popular with the tuner sub-culture, I doubt most owners bother with the expense or the hassle involved with modding...

I tend to think that most modded cars have probably been ridden hard (after all, what's the point in modding if you're not going to try for a couple of 1/4 mile tests or taking it to the track?) I would much rather buy a stock car that checks out okay rather than one that had a ton of mods on it. Who knows if the mods shortened the lifespan on the car?
