Evo's Trade in/Resale Value [MERGED]
The flip side to this:
2005 EVO 8 GSR
7,602 miles
100% perfect condition
Full mitsu service history
32k window sticker (came in the glove box)
I paid less than 24k for it 3 weeks ago. Original owner lost nearly $9,000 in 1 year. But then, this is the BEST time of the year to buy cars! WOOT WOOT!

If anyone paid window sticker then they got F'd in the ****. South Coast was selling EVO8s for $26,800 zero down zero %. Thats not including possible free maintenance and possible loyalty cash.
Lets just say your guy paid $27k. That means he bought a brand new EVO, drove it off the lot, kept it for a year (or more), and put nearly 8000 miles on it for 3 grand. He made out like a bandit.
That is fricken great!!!!! Keep in mind, you can get a brand new EVO9 RS or slightly used GSR $26k.

Exactly. Considering I was like one of the first 7 in the US to get a IX, you couldn't find ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE lower then $31,500 sticker. The only place at the time that was selling them for sticker price was HB Mitsu, EVERYONE else who barely had a IX of any sort had at least a 6-7k markup here in SoCal. My sticker said $39,000 when I first arrived there
I agree that some recklass buyers paid way too much. This happens in the used car market as well. Bottom line you cannot use MSRP as the mark. On average they sell at invoice plus $400. Some get them lower some pay more. At the end of 2005 prices were invoice, plus cash back, zero percent, ect.

You got that right!! A modified car is poison in the used car market. With very few exceptions, any perceptible modification will knock thousands off the resale value. Think about it, if you went out to buy a car, would you buy a modified car which was probably raced and abused or an unmolested clean model of the same car... Even if you use expensive, big brand names, you never get your money out of them.....
Also, everybody in these forums and others has read at least one or 2 horror stories of cars completely f**ked up while being modified. I know that happens from my own painful experience. I keep my MR in as close as stock condition as possible
... Still, the EVOs just don't hold the value compared with the cost of a new car... Sure, if you find a clean used EVO (unmolested) and get a good price, you will probably come out ahead in the end. Those of us who bought new EVOs will get hammered when trading or selling.....

One of a kind. Keeping ours forever
The new consumer reports with all the new cars. They tested the 06 evo i believe and it got the highest rating in depreciation possible. They also scored a 81 out of 100. One of the best on there. Not enough data was given totest reliability, interior, paint. Etc.
Thats why Im fishing........ Maybe time to cash out and enjoy another ride.
