you know i hate driving my car to work because its 40 miles total, 3 days a week, but i tend to switch and drive my beater also. getting rid of your car because of a longer commute is ridiculous. keep the evo and buy a beater like a older honda.

It never ceases to amaze me how dumb some people are. Why in god's name would you ever try to sell your car at the dealer?? You will ALWAYS get more selling it privately. Of course dealers have to make money. Dealers don't make money on new cars. They actually make very little money on selling new cars. Most of their money comes from selling used cars that they buy for cheap (from a dumb seller or an auto auction) and then they sell them for what they are worth or more. If they gave you what the car is worth that means they would have to sell it for even more to make a profit but no one will buy a $28K car that has a blue book of $22-24k.

 

I agree 99.9% !! I bought a modified EVO, it is a good value, but I have a lot of time invested in fixing small issues. If you are good at troubleshooting, it can be a good value, but like any project, it will cost 3x and take 3x the time you originally planned

 

I hope you don't assume I'm one of those dumb people. Because everything you said pretty much scratches the surface of common sense. We know this stuff already. I was just simply surprised at what I was offered at the Nissan dealership. I was ok with what infinity offered me. This was simply a mission of curiosity. I just wanted to see what some of you were offered. 13.5 is a slap in the face. Plain and simple.

 

You need to remember trading in can be a good thing. I've made out quite well in the past trading in. You need to compare the private sell price and trade-in price and take that difference and compare it to paying taxes on the full 31k or paying taxes on 11k. Thing is when you trade-in you only pay taxes on the remainder of the bill.

 

your never going to find a car that is going to hold its value well. A new car is going to depreciate.

 

Some people dont want to deal with the hastle of selling a car. I friend of mind had his evo listed on autotrader for four months before it sold. And often times a dealership is not going to hack the value of your car into thirds and offer you the latter. Usually thier offers are just a bit more plausible than 2/3 of it's value.

Ferraris are the only exception I can think of. Used F430s are still selling for significantly over MSRP in the USA (they sell for sticker in Europe). A $200k sticker F430 in the states can pretty easily fetch close to $250k as long as it's not a freaky color combo like yellow/red with a red steering wheel. And yeah, that's for a used one with 1,000 - 2,000 miles.

 

Everyone on this site wants to tell you how terrific the resale value of the EVO is. I think most people who have actually tried selling one would disagree though. Check out the guy who just sold his 06 GG MR for $23,500 in the for sale section after numerous price drops.

 

You are correct although this isn't the case everywhere - it varies by state.

 

cant say that, because he sold it for that cheap there was probably a reason for that. i've also see local people selling around my area, and they got the exact amount they wanted.
