Evo's Trade in/Resale Value [MERGED]
Just wondering if everyone out there agrees with me that the Evo has one of the worst resale values out there. I have a 2005 Standard Evo 8 garage kept with only 8,000 miles. I was quoted $20,000 as trade in value. Is it normal that after 18 months of owning a car it's already depreciated 33%?! How much would my car be worth to a private party? Also is when is the best time of the year to sell a car?
And in 05 Evo had the best re-sale value among all 05 models
u got hosed by nearly 7k!!! just private party it, or wait until the Evo X comes out and teenage enthusiasts with $$ realize the VIII and IX were easier to modify. . .then ur resale will hold up or go higher, much like the coveted Evo VI or VII

Dealers will always low ball on the vehicle so they will make profit when they sell it as a used. We are selling GSR evos for about $27,xxx.xx. These prices will not last long. Once we are outta the Evo's that is it. They will be in more demand till the new X's come out it 2008. Even then with a new engine the tunners may have a tuffer time and people like the old school 4G63 motor's easy to tune and work with. If I were you, hold onto it for as long as you can and once you see the current 2006 models being sold out and people wanting them...you can sell it for what you are looking for.....its all about supply and demand. If you have people still wanting the current model;s and then Mistu doesnt supply anymore then the demand is up, great news for us owners that would like to sell them!

www.nada.com - the real value, and what insurance co's use. KBB is always too high on retail value.
As many said, dealer lowballed you - they want to steal your trade in and make huge dollars of it. Sell it privately - problem solved.

I've seen Evo 9's for sale on here for cheap that people have a hard time selling. Maybe it's due to the niche market of the Evo. The performance is incredible, but the styling probably wouldn't make it the car of choice for an older "business professional". They would probably be more into a G35, s2000, 350z, M3, or something along those lines.
GunKata = Equilibrium? Pwnage.
Evos have one of the best resale values, but that doesn't mean your dealer gives 2 shats about it. If they don't want the car or don't think they can sell it easily, then they won't offer you much.

Forgot about the "Black Book", you are correct
from my understanding dealers to not go by KBB or NADA pricing, they primarily use "Black Book" pricing when dealing with trade in's. for a 2005 Evo with 8000 miles this is what i came with off of a black book website.

if you trade it in what do you expect? all trade-in are the lowest of the barrel and if you're short of cash and cannot pay the evo anymore, you grab it.
market value of the evo is definitely higher and please don't mention the evo in the same line as the kia
That is about right. The dealer has to make 20% off the car to even make it worth messing with. Evo's sell for around 25k here used with low miles. Dealer needs that 5k. If you sell it right now you are a fool anyway.
