I actually think the Evo hold it's value fairly well. Didn't it win an award about a year or two ago for the best japanese car to hold it's value or something like that?

Yep, I think people are getting worked up over the "Lowballing" that is going on right now because people are willing to let their car go for a huge loss.

Your going to take a huge hit selling a car worth 30k in the first year, as the highest depreciation happens in the first year, for any car.

Heck I have an 03, and I have been offered $25k for it (modified)

Some of the problems with this car are specifically due to the owners, either their willing to sell the cars fast and cheap for one reason or another, or they modify/butcher the car and can't sell it easily for that reason.

Keep the car stock until its out of warranty, and you'll likely get top dollar for it if you sell it before then..

Everyone is right on this thread. Dealers in different regions use different "books" to give a price on trade in value. Some use the black book, some use the NADA book, and some use KBB. the region can be as small as trading it in in Houston or up i n Dallas. ...big price differences.
They also vary from pricing it at trade or loan price. Sometimes they pick in between those 2 numbers. I paid $30K for my '05 Evo8 back in 2005, now they show it's only worth trade in about 21-22K. Too bad i still owe $27K.

I totally agree. When I bought my 04 Evo I traded in an 02 Mustang GT convertible. The Mustang was always kept in the garage, never driven in winter, and almost 20k miles on it. The thing was clean as heck. I book value on the car happened to be almost what I owed so I went in thing of just coming out even and starting over with the Evo. It was mid september when I made the trade and they tried to offer me several thousand less than I wanted. They said that it would probably take them a while to sell the stang being the time of year, no one wants that kinda of car going into winter, even then we won't be able to get enough for it. I got some good lines from them. Funny thing is they gave me slightly more than what I wanted and they sold the car within a week of having it on their lot.

I picked up my 03 evo for 18700 with 29k. Guess I got a good deal even if it did need a new hood. Already had a 3 inch TBE, pump, 500.00 stereo, works drop in and a perrin short shifter

I think the resale value should remain pretty strong until the X is available. If you can get a 03 for around $18K it should be a great deal.

Out here in Chicago I am always checking online for the number of used Evos available as well as pricing. I know I picked my 05 up for $26,000 and 9500 miles on it. I didn't have too much room to negotiate just because there were so few used Evos around as they kept getting purchased not too long after being put out on the market. These unique cars that we own definitley are woth hunting for.

What is everyones thoughts on the RS? Will it hold its value better or worse than other model EVOs? I still can't find production numbers for the RS'. Are they rare or not?

Not sure about the RS, but the MR's seem to hold value. I think right now any IX is hard to find. I am looking to pick up a new 2006 IX SE and get the 5 speed. I have a 2006 EVO IX MR with 8700 miles and I was offered from the dealer $27,000 as trade. I think I can get more if I ask around...just starting the process.

My guess would be worse, as the RS mostly a decontented version of a GSR with the exception of a small aluminum brace in the trunk (which costs $30 to add) and the aluminum roof (which also comes on the SE and MR). It's not like a comp package M3 which has exclusive suspension and transmission mods to go with the deletion of certain creature comforts.

Maybe over time things will changes as the people buying these will start picking them up as extra cars and not daily drivers, but a lot of people want things like power windows and ABS.

I'm curious- are you trading just for the 5 speed for durability purposes? It seems like the dealers should pay you for a trade if you can somehow find a used SE somewhere, but I suppose that's a pretty tall order.

Seeing as these are the last of the Evo's with the 4G63(meaning people already know how great of an engine this car already has). I am sure they will hold their value decently well. I've seen some 98-99 Eclipse GSX's with 80K miles sell for 14-15K and the Evo's are much more sought out than those cars. Also the 3Kgt VR4 hold their value surprisingly well.
