I mean, as far as dream cars go, I would LOVE to own a Lamborghini Countache because I grew up lusting after that car more than any other. Yes, its a terrible car, and not even all that fast by today's standards, but it will still be my all-time favorite looking car. If I ever do upgrade it will probably be to an R35 GT-R. The money to track them is just... crazy though lol. The GT3 is a beast car, but having that "dream halo car" is not a bad thing.

Evolutions and STi's (because I own one) are just really good platforms to build on. AWD, huge aftermarket parts and tuning industry, stout as racecars, and 4 doors and a reasonably sized trunk... oh, and SAFE!

I guess i am in the minority here, too...

Purchased my EVO brand new in 2004 and it is still my fav car 8 years and over 100k miles later. I've had faster and more powerfully cars, but none bring me the same joy the evo does.

Its almost totally stock too, in the power department.

What keeps the love affair going... track days! These cars really are amazing when taken to the track. If you've lost that 'thrill' feeling you aren't driving it right. Do a track day and pass a few +$100k cars and you'll be in love all over again.

The main thing that keeps me away from high ticket cars like the GTR and GT3's....etc is the price of basic maintenance. I guess because I don't come from affluence, so working hard for every penny makes me appreciate it more....and the kind of money they want for simple maintenance items in (in my mind) insane. Not to take anything away from these cars, they are in a whole other league in comparison to the Evo…but then again so is the price tag.

Seen a lot of people on this board since 03' buy an Evo strap on a large exhaust/turbo/injectors, brag about power, talk about how awesome it is and then sell it.

Ive driven alot of cars, ive owned alot of cars For me at this time in my life with having kids and living in chicago where it snows often this is the perfect car for me. not only can i drive faster then most things on the road, i can take my kids to school with it and have no issues of getting stuck in the snow. I do all my own work on my car so maintence is no issue for me, All around best car to own is a evo, its practical, its fast and has performence to boot.
Sure some exotics are nice and way better interior and faster, but for most of us its just not practical.Im sure if you can offord a exotic car you can afford a beater for winter But for the everyday dude like myself this car is perfect. I much rather drive this then my old 2010 Camaro 2ss/RS. In the future i want this evo to be my all around car with a Supra MvIV in the garage but for now the evo works, and much better then expected.

Give it 4-5 years, and folks who are happy with their cars will have pretty much the only Evos on the road. The transitional buyers, meaning, the folks who trade cars every few years, mod them and move on to the next platform are mostly gone. What we have now are the diehards - you, me, blah, blah, blah- the guy who always wanted an Evo and was finally able to get one and who's willing to do whatever is necessary to maintain the car, and the throw-away buyer who's just bought a $10K car to repair on a shoestring budget - might as well write it off right now. We had ~20,000 cars to start with. Just guessing, we may have ~15,000 on the road right now, more than half of which are multi-owner/high-mileage/ modded over and over. We already see a drop in participation on the forum and a change in the focus of the discussions. Another 4-5 years, and there will be 4 of us here. But, we'll still be driving and enjoying one of the few machines of its type to ever grace our shores. I bought mine to keep.

Its almost totally stock too, in the power department.
Mine, too. Another thing that will be interesting to see - which cars are kept by their owners for the long term? No predictions on my end.

^^ I too plan to keep mine forever. It was my "dream car" before they were released in the US.
Also as life circumstances change and have more $ to buy cars there are others that I like, but I love the evo for what it is. IMO it is the greatest of the "tuner" cars of this era. It is a cheap econo car with an awesome drivetrain and has ridiculous potential when you mod it.
I too would like a Porsche someday but because it is an nice sports car, it looks better, has nicer build quality, $20k+ motor, no compromise purpose built from the ground up, etc. But it's just a completely different car with a different purpose. I would want to keep the evo and enjoy it for what it is and also get the Porsche and not necessarily enjoy it more than the evo but enjoy it for what it is.
I feel both cars are at the top but of different categories.

Do you honestly believe that? Every time I hear those words, as if it's a canned response, shivers run down my spine. Cheap economy cars are equipped with aluminum body components and a forged suspension, seats and a steering wheel (components that actually influence the driver) that cost more than the entire interior in a Camry, are produced in a dedicated factory in limited numbers, and carry a modern day provenance?? No, right? So, what makes the Evo a cheap economy car? Its lack of a luxurious interior? Well, that's what a frucking focused sporting machine is! What else? Really, I'd love to know.

That's the problem I see for owning a high end car like the GT3 as well. I'd love to own one, even over my Evo but the basic maintenance and parts costs are insane. The Evo is a practical Super car.

Amen brother. I wince every time I see someone repeat that line. The Lancer is a cheap economy car... the Evo is a homolugated race car that happens to have 4 doors due to the legacy of the platform.
