It will never be all that you want it to be...

Who here has come to the realization that after all of the money that you've put into your car, that your car will never be what you want it to be? I'm not talking about those who have an Evo and have a picture of their dream car on their wall, but you've driven a car that you can afford in the near future and realize that even your modded Evo will never stack up.

I respect my car for what it is and I will likely not sell it because it's got so much work into it and it is a fun car. However, after modding it to hopefully achieve a similarity of a certain car I realize that it's nothing like it. I've driven a Porsche GT3RS a few times and everytime I've driven one, I've liked it more than my Evo.

I'm also starting to realize that it's not worth me buying another car until it is that one, whether it's a newer or older one. Has anyone else felt this about their Evo?

No ****? The Evo is a $30k car (when new) that's now, at best, six years old (at worst nine), there's not much of a chance that it will stand up against a year-old $180k (when new) car.

You have to be a bit realistic in the comparisons

wow. You like a $200k car more than your Evo? really!
I can see comparing a $200k modded Evo to a GT3RS, that would be an insane Evo.
your speaking of performance obviously not looks since a Rally car will never look like a super-car.
not enough power - bigger and better turbo
not enough grip - bigger and better tires and suspension
pretty sure for $100k you can get any evo to outperform all new cars in most performance categories.

To both of you...my car is far from stock, far far far far far from stock. It makes more power than the Porsche and has wider wheels, suspension, etc. etc.

FWIW not even a $100k Evo is going to be the all around car for me. A used GT3RS is far from $200k. I supposed I asked this question to the wrong crowd, I forgot how it works here; bash poster first unless it's a vendor or some praised member and then think about how stupid your response was later. If either of you read, I said after all of the money you've put into your car. I've more than double what my car cost into it, not complaining though. I'm saying that my next purchase will be exactly what I want out of the car.

Mods, I see where this is going, close thread now.

I know how you feel. For all the money i have in my evo, i couldve bought a c6 z06, done a few mods and run faster then most evos.....

I like my car for what it is though. Just gotta remember, no matter what you do there is always something out there better

Yeah, that's the part that's killing me. I don't really care about other people having a better car than me, but the Porsche is more suited to my taste and for the money into my Evo I could be there.

Throw in saving for a house in Northern CA with considering where my children will attend school when I have one or two of them, the M3 + Evo make more sense. I always have that one arm reaching out for the Porsche though.

I guess most of the fun in my evo is the fact that it is a 30k car new, with a small 4 banger motor. Id take a 400hp evo any day over a vette. Im in it to shut the v8 guys up. I will never buy any domestic v8. I have too much fun shutting them up with turbo 4 and 6 cyl cars.

Of course the evo will never par up to a porsche gt3. Your talking a whole different level. However, even if I could afford a porsche gt3, I wouldnt buy one haha. Id rather enjoy a few other cars, plus my evo for the same cost. Id rather have a few fun cars than one badass car.

If I had it my way, this would be my garage:
All out drag 1g dsm
Built evo 9, setup to compete in drag or road race if I wanted.
Stock motor, full bolt on evo X to cruise in for fun
Toyota tundra for my 4x4 rig.

No exotics for me. Too much money for a damn car lol

Start running with the big boys and theres not gonna be much well put together v8s you can shut up. Dont get me wrong, i love evos, but ive seen what some cars can do and it makes me rethink. But im with you on shutting them up also. I love the look on their faces after i pull away so easily

But for an everyday car, i like my evo. Its practical for me and i get a lot of compliments on it and its fun to drive

^^ This.

I used to think "It's too much money for that car." then you drive them and you see where all of the money goes. Even the new V8 Mustangs are hard to fend off when they're setup up properly. It's also not much about beating other cars for me as much as it is sound, look, feel, build quality, and the list goes on.

I still love my Evo and the noises that it makes from the turbo whistle to the clutch chatter, but I just love a few other cars are hair more. Don't get me wrong though when the pedal goes down and the rpm's shoot up, my Evo serves me well.

yea, you get to that conclusion once you get to an older age i believe. i know at this point that my 2005 evo isn't going to be slaying lambos and vipers, even though IT IS capable of it... and you should always know that even if your car in your eyes is nice there is ALWAYS gonna be someone with a better looking or performing car..

Haha, am I in the minority if I think my EVO is all that I want it to be? It's fast, reliable, has AWD, enough space for 4 adults, and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to own. That's good enough for me

I know exactly what you mean, the older and wiser I get I realize to setup realistic goals... I just to force myself to understand how things are and really just appreciate what I already have.... you'll always want more, especially things you can't afford. Some things in life are just more important and that is what I try to focus on, having a balance.

The journey is part of the fun. You aren't going to buy a GT3 and turn around an mess with it. You leave rolling works of art alone.

The only other car I want is a R35. I'm having second thoughts because I need to get my salary to a range where i can afford to maintain one.
