It will never be all that you want it to be...
While I could take my Evo to college parties and it was acceptable; I'm no longer in school and taking my Evo to a dinner party that requires my girlfriend and I to suit up is not acceptable. It's loud, obnoxious, and all around unfitting; but I do love my Evo which is why I've backed out of selling it many times. The GT3RS is just more suiting, but anyway hopefully the BMW is leaving to make room for the Porsche.
Without a doubt Evo's are fast, but I'm growing to a point where fast is not my only requirement. Engine noise, interior feel, exterior looks, build quality, paint quality, steering wheel feel and input, and amenities are important to me. It really has nothing to do with what other people think, because if that were the case I'd be asking on a Porsche forum for praise. I do agree with mindset being a determining factor though, and my mindset is I want an all around great stock car.
Let's put it this way when you go out with your friends and you dress nice you feel good about yourself because you're clean, smell nice, have your Sunday's best on and you just feel good. Indirectly your friends may comment on how nice your attire is or even a female; your main goal is not to impress those people, but by impressing yourself you impress others. In addition to this statement no one wants to be an outsider; if you are an introvert then this rule is not applicable.
Now if I were selling everything I had and the Evo to get the Porsche I could understand people bringing up the argument of me wanting to impress people. However, this is not applicable because I've driven more than a fair share of GT3RS' and they make me smile every time. From what I gather people tend to think that people buy BMW's, etc. solely to impress others and while that may be some of the reason it's not usually the sole purpose. So as not to backpedal, yes it is more acceptable to go to an upscale dinner in a european car but the topic of conversation is not "OMG you have a PORSCHE!!" or whatever other luxury brand is there. Those who do brag about what they have are seen as obnoxious, but it is comforting knowing that people aren't going to approach me and ask a dozen questions about why my evo has or does this and that. It's comforting to know that I fit in and I'm not awaking my neighbors when I want to go for a spirited drive at 1 am.
The point is that everyone is not a hardcore, raw to the bones Evo owner all the time otherwise Mitsubishi would not have change the Evo X so drastically to make it comfortable. People want comfort and while BMW's M3 is nice, it's heavy and unfortunately the cost for having a better performing car whilst maintaining some comfort is high. The only other option really is a 7GT3/GT3RS; the GT-R is quite frankly too heavy and doesn't handle as well. Before anyone throws the Nurgburgring in my face, yes I understand it's 4 seconds faster than a GT3RS but the Nurburgring is a highspeed track. The GT-r is not as fast at tracks such as buttonwillow, laguna seca, thunderhill, etc. which are all local tracks to me and it certainly isn't as fast on mountain runs with tight corners.

There has been a trend of people building high horsepower Evo's and selling it and having more sane goals or they are so burnt by the car they go and get something else.
Usually a M(*), Vette or GTR.
I hope one day to own a Skyline but I'm happy with my Evo right now. I don't drive it everyday so its fun everytime I get into it.
I want to start messing with cars that are cheaper now. I've had 5 different civic hatchbacks, I'm discussing with my father what he would want to modify more......a Datsun 510 or Volvo 240 (I just brought it up to him because of this thread and showed him some youtube videos.
Never ends boyos. For some people they are never happy long term with their car. I have no doubt boostfiend will eventually want something else after buying the porsche. I have a friend like this. Never happy and I'm kinda sad for him.
I always aim to keep any car I modify. If life forces me to part the car out or ge rid of it then so be it but I plan to keep this Evo as long as I can.
There aremore and more R35's popping up in Atlanta and Forged Performance is becoming one of the premier SKyline mod houses so they are getting R35's from all over the country. Hearing and seeing the performance they are capable of has been EXTREMELY sobering for me. No matter how fast you make an evo you can not be double clutch paddle shifting that is instant. I've resigned myself to have a car that is kinda inbetween.
Faster then most imports and stock super cars, not quite in the league of said super cars.
Bottom line. I'm happy with my car and although it would be nice to have something else I'll settle for one of the baddest Evo's in Atlanta. LOL.

I've had my Evo for 5 years and still love it on weekends, track days, or even the occasional grocery run
.
I'll eventually want another car after the Porsche without a doubt, and it will likely be something tame. I don't plan on selling the Evo anytime soon!
In any manner post up the civic build if you do it, I've got lots of love for the HB's; I love the coupe's too but the hatches have a special place in my heart.

Last one I had had a ITR motor in it and all the JDM interior pieces. It was AWESOME. I'd still have that car if it wasn't for selling it to get the downpayment for my house.
I really understand where you are coming from. When you buy a porsche, you are not just buying a car, you are buying an engineering masterpiece(specially the high level porsches such as the GT3). But I really think you bought the wrong car. It's obvious that you love german cars. You don't have to buy a GT3 RS. Sell the evo and get a turbo 993 or 996. You will save some money and then you can buy the GT3 RS.
However, I don't understand why SO MANY of you guys underestimate your cars... I mean there are killer Z06's, Killer GTRs, etc. But, there are also KILLER evos. Just look at what DB has done with the BAD BISH. It's a full street car which goes 9.0 in the 1/4 mile. You would need an alpha 12 GTR which only the upgrade costs $80 grand, to beat it. And the best thing is that the mod list is there for EVERYONE to look at and give it a try. Let's say you are not a pro and you don't get a 9.0, but maybe you get mid to high 9's consistently. PLEASE TELL ME how many other cars out there are going to beat you? Specially on the street?!

The only car I'd probably ever realistically be able to get and want would be a MKIV TT Supra. But I've heard they are very expensive to maintain and mod, not to mention can't handle the winters over here. So evo it is. Maybe when the evo is paid off though I'll get a supra and have the best of both =)

From: Why do they always call the Evo the Dark Side?
Who here has come to the realization that after all of the money that you've put into your car, that your car will never be what you want it to be? I'm not talking about those who have an Evo and have a picture of their dream car on their wall, but you've driven a car that you can afford in the near future and realize that even your modded Evo will never stack up.
And in that venue, and on street tires, I like my odds against the GT3
ive always wanted an evo since the first time i saw one at the dealership when my mom bought an eclipse rs, i remember it was an evo 8 MR it was amazing! and now that i have an evo 8 RS with a lot of bolt on's and s!@# i love it and the good thing is that i got it for 13,500 with 75,500k miles in mint condition, now i wouldnt mind owning a supra single turbo or a cobra "terminator" with a kenne bell but for now the evo!
