Evo Died While Driving. PLEASE ADVISE.
I'll start by saying Any and all advice will be GREATLY appreciated.
I Started driving my 04' Evo out of a parking lot, i notice my Volt Meter was reading low (9.3V) and then suddenly my RPM gauge (Tachometer) started jumping around then dropped completly down to nothing (0) and then my ABS Light (Anti Lock) light came on along with my SRS light...
My lights began to dim, even worse with my hazards on, i didnt make it merely 1 mile down the road before it started CHOKING/Jolting violently and then completly died.
I tried starting it back up and it wouldn't even try to crank, as if the battery was completely dead.
I had someone jump me off and even then it was a struggle. It started fine but i couldnt make it back with my lights on.(Not Even my hazards) And i had to get jumped off 3 MORE time after (keep in mind i wasn't even a mile from where i originated)
I just want to know if anyone has had this happen and what is the culprit. Alternator or Battery?
Before i take it to a shop and they completely rape me
My conclusion is this.
A) My Battery is Dead (optima red top RELOCATED to the trunk)
B) My Alternator is Done
Remember, it got jumped off BUT it wouldn't hold it, it started dying out if i turned the lights on.
It jolted violently as it was dying out.
& All my indicator lights came on.
I'll have to have it towed somewhere if it's NOT just the battery, i have the receipt. (I'm aware of Optima Red Tops giving out only after a few months, My brother had one in his Lexus IS300 and he replaced it every 4-6 months
)
I've never had an issue like this before with any of my cars.

Sounds like the alternator to me... I've had a couple go out on other cars in the past and the symptoms were pretty similar. The battery is probably toast too because the alternator isn't feeding a charge back to it.
Sounds to me like either your battery isnt holding a charge, or your alternator is kaput. With the car running, your volt gauge should read around 14v. This leads me to believe it is more the alternator than the battery.
Also, I had my tach jump around wildly on my old civic, turned out it was the fuse that is responsible for the alternator circuit. Maybe check that fuse before replacing alternators. Good luck.

You can start the process of figuring out whats wrong with the car by taking the battery out of the car and taking it to your local Advance Auto or Autozone and having them charge and test your battery. Its free by the way.

I would check all of your grounds and your wire that runs from the battery to the alternator. Casue My was lose and it wasnt making a good connection, so my car would say on. And it would die after a few minutes of being on. GL
turns out it wasn't the alternator. check https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ve...c-ops-n-c.html for the real problem and fix.
Thanks again for the help guys!!!

Bad ground or altenator. Without the altenator to keep up the juice the it will start to kill the battery and then there will be barely any power I do this test. First after you manage to get the car started take the negative side off the battery if the car doesnt stay on then its your altenator.
