first thing i said when i went for the loan was im not gonna buy a car unless its fully functional and exactly what i want. the thing is its got the stage 2 tranny in it. its pretty much stock i.m.o. and its got low miles. its a good deal. only thing that is holding me back is the ACD problem, which i could fix. now that i hear a problem with ACD doesnt throw codes make me even more skeptical about buying it. so when he reads the codes to me i will go from there.

If i were in your position here is what i would do:

Go to a local evo shop and speak with a tech about it, try to get him to check out the car with you and find out from him how much it will cost you to get the car up and running properly. If you can justify the cost and everything else checks out properly with the car, go for it.

I'd also consider that If the tranny blew on a stock car in 30k miles, its either the owner didn't know squat how to drive or he drove that car like a maniac, Possibly launching it all over the place etc.

Go with your instinct, if you really want the car and you can deal with getting it back to tip top shape, get it. However sometimes it's better to wait a while to get what you really want.

I waited 8 mths to find myself one in wonderful condition. Goodluck man

thanks for your awesome input man! really appreciated. getting the car back in tip top shape would only require getting that ACD problem taken car of. the only thing with actually going to a tech. with the car before I buy it is the car is 250 miles away from where I live. I could maybe tell him that I want the car taken into a sho to get it completely looked over. as in a full inspection with details like compression numbers and what the real problem with the ACD is. see if he can get all that documented for me too look over and I'll make my decision on weather or not I'm going to buy it. he did already drop the price 1200 dollars because of the ACD problem to cover the cost. it's a lot of thinking goin into buy a 20,000 dollar car.

You can get your acd pump rebuilt for a fraction of the cost of a new pump and it will last waaay longer than the new one.

I feel like he's just trying to push his problem along to someone else. if he can fix everything and have receipts to show then maybe I can go through with it but until then I have no interest. thanks for all the help and input from everyone though!

I was in a similar situation not too long ago where I wanted a evo so bad and had a hard time finding the right one. I got desperate and bought a red evo 9 ssl package with 44000 on it. I shoulda walked away when the owner wasn't up front and told me the car was in a accident but stupid me tried to use that as a negotiating point. Car had a shep trans and t-case and claimed that it had always been stock. Being a mechanic myself I had many doubts based on what the guy was telling me and what I saw for myself but I thought I was getting the better end of the deal than him. The day he drops off the car the first gear is shot and it has a check engine light. I put it up on the lift to check it out and it was leaking oil from trans. I shoulda walked away again but I didn't I told him to fix the tranny and the leak (which appeared to b axle seal) then well talk. He had it fixed by his friend who I had no idea what his qualifications were and when I asked for a receipt for the repair he gave me some handwritten bs that look like he did it while he was waiting in the car. I still didn't listen to my gut instinct and decided to proceed. After test driving it again when the trans was fixed it was making some odd sounds. And stupid me STILL bought it. A few days later it started leaking again. And needless to say I had a very uneasy feeling. Unfortunately the car ended up getting stolen one night and insurance paid me out more than what I paid so I bought a minty fresh low mileage bone stock evo 9 mr and it's 10x better than the last one I had. Take it from me and stay away from that car. I saw the on autotrader that u speak of. I was looking at it too when I was shopping for another evo but I called the guy twice and he never returned my calls.

Good thing I read this thread. I was going to call the guy today and I have cash on hand and I'm local.

I'm not even calling him. you dont break trannys with near stock cars with only 30k miles somthing fishy

@30k miles the cars not gonna loose all its fluid.

Seriously walk away and let him fix his own problems

Also I went and looked at this car last night
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mitsu...item4d00c4f467

Compression is 180 175 145 180
Timing belt has not been done
Clutch Holds power but is super high and you have to let it out 95%
Car was in a accident even tho carfax claims it has not

There is nothing special or rare about that car besides it's an Evo 8 with Evo 9 parts. And I can guarantee the car was not meticulously maintained. If it were, the owner would not leave adhesive from old wheel weights on the wheels and they would have at least refinished the calipers.
The clutch letting out close to the top is fine. My clutch is the same way (stock).

Keep looking.
