sanc: Actually, take exception to HobieKopek. I just thought it was funny

I do remember though, when everyone thought the Evo would be out in 2002. Popular Mechanics wrote it would be 2003. I think I would be more skeptical if it was Super Street breaking the news....

Not Again!

How many times do we have to go through this ****

Only a DETAILED press release from Mitsu is a reliable source. It should include all tech data, plus firm delivery date..... Credible publications will cite the Mitsu press release directly. Everything else is Bull****....

Here is the official release about the "MR"..BELIEVE IT, boys!!

MITSUBISHI TO ANNOUNCE US ARRIVAL OF LONG AWAITED "MR" MODEL
NEWSWIRE-AP

The long awaited model called the "MR" which utilizes the core technology found in Mitsubishi's stunning and successful cult car the 2003 Lancer Evolution, will be arriving stateside sooner than expected. "This new "MR" represents the entire Evolution soul in our opinion" claims General Manager Tokuyo Shugnoro . "It embodies the latest in technological advances." He adds. "The engine is lightened and improved to provide a more linear torque and power band and does all of this without offering heated seats for those fat ****ing American pizza eating asses"

When asked how soon the EVO "MR" as it's called by the purists, would be arriving stateside Shugnoro had this to say..."Who knows....With the uncertainty of Mitsubishi's presence in the United States and our uncanny abilty to sell a stripped down 2004 version to those dumb Americans at higher gross profits...maybe never."

Believe it now???

You can't miss it, it's got the big flying saucer on the front. I only leafed through the magazine, but I read the article twice to make sure I read correctly. Just because some car rag didn't have the news first doesn't mean it ain't dependable.

I also think it's funny how everyone is now saying "I don't want the flippin' ^%#&^&^$ differentials!!!" A year ago, half the people here were saying "I can't believe Mitsubishi didn't bring the Evo here without AYC/ACD. It's not a REAL Evo without those." You guys are conflicted. Personally, I favor ACD with a mechanical rear, but that's just me.

Rocketscience: (the guy who compared the Evo differentials to the 3000 GT), get real. I think the active differentials are a little bit more dependable than electric gizmos that really didn't serve much purpose except add weight. It's not like this is the first year of release.

And about the AWD G-SR rumor, and that you'd believe it when you saw it...well, I hate to tell you, but they've ALL READY built the MR.

It's not like I have a history of rumor-mongering and opening fake threads.

Just my .02 or .03. Not tryin' to start a flame war. Don't kill the messenger. Blah, blah...
you may have not meant to start a flame war in the beginning. too late now. Nothing in my post was meant to offend. I'm pretty sure none of it was directed ay anyone. the gs-r awd blurb was to illustrate something. the "i'll believe it when i saw it" wasnt about BUILDING the car.. you missed the point. read it again. and then maybe again if you have to. dude take a chill pill. And im sure the article is in the mag. Im not doubting that. For crying out loud.. why do people take offense to everything? I think it's a damn cool car. For the money it will cost? If you can afford it great. My friend could afford the vr4 and all the repairs. I can't. If you got the $$$ I'm happy for you and you can be my best friend. AWD cars generally require more maintenance. Yes I've owned them before. It was turbo also. Even more maintenance. Add more stuff, etc.etc. And it's not a differentials to active aero on the vr-4 comparison. It's just more stuff to maintain and break. But I bought an Evo knowing maint costs would be more than my wife's g20. To me it's worth it. And it's as simple as that: worth it. MR? Unless I make about double what I do now, not worth it (if it ever gets here -- BTW the point of the 'blurb' comment). If you can get it, congratulations. Buddy. Bestest of friends...

I just took a chill pill..

Did anyone doubt you that what you read was real? Sorry, I didnt read all the posts...

I'm planning to be shopping for an Evolution in spring 2005, so it'll be great if the MR or Evo 9 are here.

is it the better seats? (not really an issue since y9ou can buy better)

is it the diffs? (i am very happy with the way the 8 handles and i doubt if you will even notice them..)

is it the color? (couldn't care less)

is it the headlights/taillights? (you can do it yourself in less than 4 hours)

is it the 6spd? (i have driven both the 6spd and the 5spd and i will take my 5spd any day)

is it the power? (for the price difference between the 2 you will be able to get better upgrades and still have a lot of change left)

suspension? (might be but i am very happy with my cusco coilovers )

as you can see i don't think the MR is a better car, sure it is a very cool car but i am happy with my 8.
By this logic, our Evo 8's in your opinion should be no better than the RS's.

Honestly, I didn't take offense at anything. It's just that when someone posts something around here (my original post), everyone becomes a Doubting Thomas and has a tendency to whine. For what it's worth, I took a chill pill too.

depends on what you are going to use the car for. if it is your daily driver than yes, i think our evo is better than the RS. if you need a track car than no, the RS is better (light weight, chassis bars etc...)

i have info as of this morning direct Mitsubishi U.S. ( yea i got connections )... the 03 Evo will continue sales until April of 04 and then the 04's will be released (they are already built). in Sept the 05's will be released with no comment on any changes.. i also asked the General Manager of my local dealer to mention to these "high end" people about the MR and they did have a clue what it was.. go figure..
