You will probably spend a poopload of money finding and locating these parts. Some parts require other parts which require other parts, etc. It's a big chain to do some of the conversions. Although someone has put a JDM 6-speed into a usdm car.

Actually, those FQ cars are only available in the UK...so it's not just the US that doesn't get them.

The FQ cars are converted by The Colt Car Company UK, so the parts are not really OEM. They use aftermarket parts from HKS and other suppliers to put those packages together. There's no reason why you can't do it yourself.

Putting the 6-speed, ACD, and S-AYC into a USDM car will obviously be quite costly. Not worth it, if you ask me. The ratios on the 5-speed are just about perfect and people in the UK seem to have lots of complaints about the 6-speed so far.

Also, ACD and S-AYC seem kind of gimmicky to me. I doubt you'd ever notice the difference on the street. I wouldn't even be interested in this stuff on the track, since electronic "driver aids" tend to make a car's handling rather unpredictable on the limit. No thanks! I would like a front LSD, though...

However, you can do the same power mods as the FQ series without too much trouble. My understanding is the FQ-330 maintains stock engine internals. The power comes from intake, downpipe, high-flow cat, and 3" exhaust (all sourced from HKS, AFAIK) plus a piggyback ECU similar to Vishnu's XEDE. You can probably put all the parts together for under $3000.

It's the ECU thats responsible for most of the hp bump between the normal Evo and the FQ330. And that ecu will not work on a US spec car.

As mentioned above, your bet bet would be to go talk to one of our site vendors. They would be happy to set you up with the HKS stuff you need to visually replicate a FQ330 package. Then contact a Vendor about getting your ECU flashed so you can make the most of those hks parts.

I just thought of something. I remember reading on the lancerregister.com board that the FQ packages retain the stock clutch! Considering all the complaints on this board about cutches falling apart on stock cars, I'd be a bit concerned about that.

Im pretty sure they use a different clutch on the uk spec evo's. Its only america that got a weak clutch.

same clutch.

Remember, while you see lots of people complaining on these boards about the clutches, the reality is that only about 10% of people are seeing premature wear/replacement.

I currently have 25k on my original clutch.

You never seem to hear of clutch problems in other markets. I guess it's because drag racing isn't really popular outside the US. Or maybe the British are just better drivers than we are

Well and the US affinity for drag racing is definitely at the heart of it. The only way you're going to wear out the clutch prematurely is by beating on it or driving improperly.

Hard launches are hard on any clutch. It's just as easy to fry a spendy street clutch as any stocker.

The one thing I will say though is I definitely did not like the feel of the clutch because of the rubber clutch line and restrictor. That has little to do with how strong the clutch is though.

At last, i think people are finally getting the message about the clutch and remembering the EVO is based on a rally car (Yes it's not that difficult to break traction on gravel, mud or snow) and not a drag racer. If owners want to race the thing in a straight line get a clutch that is built for it, along with everything else affected in the drivetrain.
