With those benefits the car should be a little faster right, or am I wrong?
It's pretty much just for looks and to match the front end of the IX.

Here is the link to the best motoring video.

Skip to 4:07, where the designers and engineers discuss the reasons why they went with a new JDM rear end for the 2006 Evo IX as well as info on why they changed the front end etc.

Why would anyone want a USDM rear? They are flatout uhgleee. The accent lines and the bulbous, asymmetrical contours are awful. But, for me the real sore thumb are those little red rectangular reflectors on the sides of the thing. Real awful. I'd rather run Nerf Bars than a USDM rear.

Just curious as I've seen guys in the marketplace from the UK/Australia willing to trade their Evo 7, JDM 8/9 tails for ugly USDM 8/9 tails and I found it funny. Maybe Evo owners from other countries might want our USDM rears to set themselves apart from other Evos in their area or due to rarity, etc.

I can't explain my own behavior let alone that of peeps 1/2 way around the world. My evo 8 is a Latin American Market RS. Pretty much it is a LHD JDM RS. My other Evo is a USDM X MR.

I don't like my JDM VIII rear in comparison to the JDM IX rear, but I do prefer it to the USDM rear. I just hate those little red side reflectors on the USDM bumpers. They look so lame.. Hate, hate, hate 'em.

The same holds true to a lot of other bumpers/body parts on other cars. Most often the USDM counterparts for any car look a lot crappier than what the car looks like in Japan. Evo, Integra, Rsx, ft86, brz, etc.

Great looking wagon, btw. Always wanted to see one in real life.
I can kind of see what you're saying, but it doesn't work for me. The JDM rear (8 or 9) still looks much better. I would put a lot of blame on that crash beam.

Thanks, next time you're in the are shoot me a PM and you can check it out

It's just that. Same reason you guys go for JDM headlights. Just a point of difference.

Thanks.
lol thanks, I've been to Australia a couple of times, and if I ever manage to make it to New Zealand I will definitely give you a PM lol.

I've driven a 04 ralliart wagon, but that must pale in comparison to your car haha.

On a side note, it's pretty amazing that most of the votes are for the JDM rear over USDM on a board full of mainly North Americans. This is on top of the cost and time consuming labor of installing one.

That's a bit of an understatement They're completely different, the evo wagon is built using the sedan platform.

It probably has something to do with the type of people that are viewing the thread. I've noticed that a few of the USDM bumper guys responses mention getting a JDM in the future.

If I had a 8 or a 9 the JDM bumper would be a must.

^ Nice a set of Evo 7 or JDM 8/9 tails would fit perfectly.
