I got a JDM rear after my Evo hydroplaned into a guardrail ~4 years ago: ~$14K worth of paint, body and replacement parts. Even though I had the car put back to factory specs - all OEM parts, other than a set of Whiteline F/R anti-swaybars, including a matched set of factory Bilsteins - I decided on the JDM rear, because it is a factory part and it is how the IX should have been offered in the US. I do really like the way it looks, too.

Yeah well the US cares too much about "safety". Isn't that why we have a different bumper?

Yeah that's true but it's BS that they can't get the jdm to fit with the crash beam. Don't weld on the two standoffs and BAM the jdm bumper fit and saved themselves money lol

i own one! i recall when i first got one, they were about i belive $600 and change or somewhere around there. i ended up purchasing another new about a year ago and they jumped in price to about $700 or so plus add the demonworkz beam and that jumps it up even higher.

Either way its a good investment, makes the car look great, and not every evo owner in the U.S owns them.

They must be crazy All evos in Australia are imports from japan so the 8 came stock with what looks similar to the USDM bumper and the 9's all came with the diffuser.

Yup, the rear end collision rules are different in North America than Europe and Japan. The funny thing is we couldn't get the 8/9 Evos up here in Canada due to the fact our bumper laws are even more stricter than the laws in the US.

I believe the front bumper with the FMIC causes more damage during a low speed collision than Canadian laws would allow. Glad they changed the rule a few years ago, or else I would probably be in an STI now .

I would take the USDM bumper over the JDM Evo IX bumper any day of the week. My order would go like this, USDM> JDM Evo 7/8> JDM Evo 9

Any reason for this? You're probably the first Evo owner I have ever heard of that has this opinion.

I simply just don't like it, I never really cared much for it. To me it just looks 'blah.' It looks weird from the side and makes the rear end look flat.

i agree, though i like both i would rather keep the USDM bumper (even though im guilty of recently purchasing a jdm one lol) il keep both i kind of like the side marker light and how it has a curve to it from a profile. Everyones got theyr own style. I was debating on whether i should just get the diffuser for the USDM bumper. It looks great and gets rid of the USDM's "plain boring" look.

kind of off-topic but my JDM bumper barely rubs my Greddy Ti-C. I've tried moving the exhaust around on the hangers and messing with the flange bolts to try and twist it, but it still barely makes contact. Should I trim the bumper (it's on the inside) or are there other options I'm not considering? I will post a picture this afternoon when I get home, but I hate to cut into a $1000 piece of plastic

Try loosening all the bolts from the o2 housing back and have a buddy help keep it in place as you re-tighten each bolt.
