evo idling issues

Hey guys

I just bought my fist evo, its a 2003 evo 8 and has been negleted for years. So far I have replaced the iac, bov and just found the egr to be bad. I also tried unplugging the front 02 . The car stalls when creeping forwqrd in traffic. After some research here its much better but not perfec. I reset the ecu yesterday. but the idle still dips to almost stall. Any input would be great. As near as I can tell the car is stock so no evo scan to park the iac.

Thanks

+1 on what bov , also check throttle body etc, i've heard when people clean them + iac, they tend to mistake the seal on it with dirt and grime and clean it off, which usually causes a terrible idle ..

I bought an evo 9 mr bov to replace the turbo smart dual bov I have not yet cleaned the tb or the iac ports. My biggest issue is the stalling when creeping forward in traffic. Its much better than when I bought it , but I want perfect.

Thanks

clean the MAF

also when you re set the battery did you do the following, when doing all the steps below you idle will drop low and nearly stall then it will start to gradually come back to normal idle RPM

turn the A/C on full blast and then the idle stable out

with the a/c on turn on the lights and the brights and then let the idle stable out

then turn music on really loud, and turn the wheel full right and hold it there until the idle stables then go to the left.

make sure you you leave all those accessory's on while doing this. this will set your idle.

report back after doing all this

If it really has been neglected and you are planning on pulling the tb off anyway, you might want to get a new gasket and some new shaft seals. Sometimes that can mess with the idle...

Also, if you have evoscan and a tactrix cable, adjusting the BISS can help ALOT!

There could be a big boost leak, do a boost leak test. How did resetting the idle work?

Had the same probelm with my 03 evo 8 when i bought it. Take out the TB and cleaned it very good and replace the Throttle Shaft Seals and cleaned iac ports. when i did the step that i told you with me evo 8, the car stop stalling and it runs like a champ. my idle also got alot better. Plus i noticed alot more power when i replaced the Throttle Shaft Seals.

Quote "If you have a '03/04 Evo, there is an 80% chance that your OEM throttle shaft seals are cracked. If you own a 05/06 Evo, those odds increase to over 90%!"

I Belive that my Throttle Shaft Seals (Both) were 98% Cracked and torn apart.
(http://www.streettunedmotorsports.co...body_seals.htm) That's were i bought mine. OR try http://www.buschurracing.com/ Both great companies

Hope it works for you.

Il look at the tb later this week my car has 90,000 miles or 145 kms so those seals could be bad.
