Mine arrived, still looks to be ~2.65" inside the rear muffler. There is a reduced diameter in the central resonator also (it's not 80mm ID) but it looks larger than the rear muffler. I emailed Tanabe and asked days ago about neck downs and ID's (pre-purchase since I was comparing systems) but they haven't responded.

Given most (non 80mm) JDM exhausts start life as 75mm OD systems with ~2mm wall thickness, they are close to 70-71mm ID piping and smaller again in the resonators depending on design/model. The HKS Super Turbo system I had is like that, even has a neck down to ~2.5" at the cat flange and they rate that to 500HP (take that as you like, but it was around the same size internally or smaller than the tanabe).

The tanabe sounds great though, bassy and full but as the revs rise still sounds restrained whereas my Ralliart Ti was cuttingly loud at WOT.

That video one4 posted actually sounds really good. Looks and sounds like it should fly under the radar with absolutely no problem.

Just picked up a ix with an HKS Turbo back with the carbon fiber muffler. It's not too bad but looking for something a little quieter too. Leaving for work at 4-5am would be nice to let my car warm up without pissing off the neighbors.

I also run the RRE stealth exhaust. It is the best sounding exhaust I could ask for. Not obnoxious at all but has a nice tone under a load. Well worth the money.

There are two instances when I can hear a lot of noise from the exhaust is at WOT above 5k RPM (but it's not intrusive or booming) and at idle due to loping idle from Blox 272 cams. Bonus points are that it's flat black with a 3" tip. Smaller than the stock tip, it looks stocker than stock.
This is interesting, really makes it sound quiet. I've had the GReddy Ti-C the whole time I've had the car and eventually put a race cat on to drop the noise and be a little less obnoxious around town. It helped a lot for interior noise, but minus a little bit of bass, it has the same sound projection outside the car. Neighbors say they don't mind though and the old lady nearby says she loves how it sounds... nice.

Picked up a magnaflow universal muffler and am going to try it in place of the test pipe on my HKS DP with the Ti/carbon Catback exhaust. Got the idea from another thread on here hoping it quiets it down some without too much added restriction since the muffler is still a 3" straight through.

The Works exhale is reasonably quiet until you wake it up.

I also have the Works Stealth with stainless tip.

Much quieter but still wakes up easily.

I've had alot of possitive comments and questions from other evo owners.

My Works stealth muffler has about 4 or 5k miles on it and will be posted in the classifieds section later if anyone is interested in it.

I have an 8 with M2 cams, Helix DP, RRE Rally Cat, Vibrant, and Works EXhale. It isn't loud but it has a loud drone especially at iddle. I think this is due to cams. People have been telling me to get the Apex Noir. Do you think it will help to reduce the drone? Thank you.
