Unhappy Overheating on idle and low speeds?

after attending a track day with my evo, i noticed my OEM water temp gauge (in the dash) has become way more sensitive than it has ever been before.

Some symptoms are

1. Car started over heating during track day for the first time. (oil tempo at 260) and water temp gauge 3/4 full

2. Car over heats on idle.

3. radiator fan seem to not be working

1 What could cause my motor to get hot suddenly? (both on idle and during movement)

2 what could cause my fan not to turn on anymore on idle?

any comments/ suggestions would be appreciated

thanks

Stuck/Defective thermostat would be my first guess.

Check your thermostat and you may also have a blown headgasket. I had the same issue after a tuning session, tried replacing the thermostat turned out to be the headgasket, good luck.

Get a block tester to start with, before throwing parts at it or any speed shop in your area should have one.

are you talking about pressure testing the motor?

thanks

Take it out from the car. Most manuals have instructions on how to. Throw it in boiling water and if it opens up once its boiling, then you know it works. If not or it only opens slightly then you know its detective.

With a blown headgasket an air pocket around the fan temp sensor can cause a fan to not turn on. A block test willtell you if combustion gases are in the cooling system.

There's another thread here with the same issue and some good ideas. 1. Not having the ground - manifold to firewall can cause this. 2. Log the temperature the ECU is seeing. If the ECU thinks everything is normal it probably is and the gauge sensor is faulty.

I wouldn't start thinking head gasket until coolant is dumping on the ground.

I just replaced my headgasket so I am hoping its the grounding wire I am missing and not have to pull off the head again
