One headlight working?

Hi guys,

So here's my problem. Last night as I was driving I noticed that my passenger side (left side because our cars are right hand drive in NZ) headlight was out. During the day it was fine. So I left it alone overnight and decided to check on it again in the morning. I tried it again today and it didn't turn on (remember though the driver side still works). At first I thought it could be the bulb that's out but while I was driving to Uni after checking it again, I decided to turn it on, then BAM both lights work (saw the reflection on another car). I reached Uni and left it on for another 10 minutes both lights still working. I then turn the car off then on again and the passenger side didn't turn on.

I own an Evo 7 with factory HID but I changed the bulb to 8500K about a month after getting the car. The lights have worked normally ever since I got the car 3 years ago. Hopefully this information helps.

Could it be faulty wiring? or maybe my battery could be weaker? I'm not to sure what it could be but I'll try swapping the bulbs to see if the bulb is the problem, I just wanted to ask now and see if anyone knows what the problem could be. I've checked google what the reason could be but they all lead to problems with conversion kits but mines factory.
Thanks in advance!

first off, get rid of those ****ty 8500k bulbs. the look bad and they have terrible light output

usually it's a ballast issue but could also be a connection issue. just check all your connections. if a bulb is dead, it won't ignite at all, there is no middle ground so if its works sporadically, it's something electrical

Swap the bulbs and see. If not most likely the ballast.

Hey guys thanks for the reply. I haven't had the time to swap bulbs but I'm sure that's not the problem because it turned on again after 15mins of driving today. How am I able to check if it is the ballast? and is it possible that a cr*p battery could be at fault?

It sounds like a ballast issue for sure. There is no real way to test a ballast, either it works or it doesn't. You can order a set off of DDM tuning for pretty cheap, or buy an OEM one off the forums.

Hi there! Just a quick update! I solved the problem. It was due to a weak battery! hehe. It cr*pped out the moment I removed the terminals. I swapped it with a new one, let it charge for a bit then tried out the headlights and they worked. Anyway will check again in the morning if they turn on again. Thanks again for the replies!
Cheers.

I had the same symptoms on my Evo 8. In my case, It was the ground wire close to the engine comparment fuse box. It was rusted/corroded and not tight at all. I attached a Ground wire kit since the ground post was rusted. Easy fix for me. Works normal now.

I had a similar issue, except it wasnt with 8500k bulbs. I ended up replacing the ballast. I found one on here for a decent price. But make sure you try another bulb first. Cheap solutions first.
