The only issues I have heard from Subaru, namely the WRX is the tranny. That's b/c you have all the idiot drivers dropping their clutches in an AWD vehicle. Things break. Even the Evo/STi trannys are gonna fail after a few dumps. Not too mention the tranny on the Rex is weak anyhow. <--bad on Subaru.

The german touring club ADAC and the Swiss touring club TCS, which do reliability studies have among the top ranking manufacturers (for TCS, Subie ranks #1, same for the U.K.) quality is right up there with Subie on a global level and just a notch below leader Toyota.

I drive an 87 Turbo Supra with many mods including suspension and clutch. While my ride is much harsher than stock, I got used to it after a week of daily driving. The clutch is extremely stiff. It's an ACT performance clutch good to over 500 ft-lbs of torque. That took longer to get used to especially using it as a daily driver. Now I hardly notice though and I actually find the softer suspension and clutches of other cars to be annoying.
I also had a soft top Jeep Wrangler for many years, and that thing had ferocious road noise, but I loved that rig and I still miss it.
I know my Supra is a completely different kind of beast than the EVO, but if you are comfortable with manual transmissions and don't drive it like you stole it (at least not all the time), you'll be fine.
Bottom line is that you can adjust to anything, when you drive something you love.

quality everywhere but quality of cars from Normal, IL which sucks. I hope EVO build in Japan would be as good as WRX in this aspect. Another thing is service (and dealers) from my experience suq. 
Hah Well... for me I personally don't care which one I get, it now depends on these factors. What one I can find a car as in i will not wait in line for one. So whoever has availibility. ... Price difference..... I will not pay more than 30k for an evo, and i won't pay more than 34k for a sti... now its time to see who can deliver and who cannot.
