The STi should be compared with Audis and other 4wd sedans, but definitely, DEFINITELY not our EVOs!!!
I like the STi, but I think the USDM STI does not belong in our rallying roots and bragging rights.
yes you might be right about the evo 8, but if i am not mistaken was that the evo 7 that just came in first in the wrc. and the evo 8 and 7 by looks are very similar, but you are right, the evo 8 was built for us to enjoy and not to run in a rally, because it will probably fall apart just like the subaru.
ps. at least one thing is to specs our evo engine and that's all that matters. not trying to start a war but i would like to see what subaru can do with a 2.0, the wrx is fine, not great like the evo 2.0.

If I had to buy today, I would go with the STI. I've always liked Subaru's "quality" along with a better resale value. Mitsubishi's have always been plagued with quality issues like those outlined on this site. Paint, rust, clutch, interior, etc, etc, etc.

For those of u that cry about no top end in an evo... I have 2 words for you.... GET MODS! When I was fully, stock, a 2G AWD Eclipse pulled on me and got me from 80-120. Now.... I'd roast that same car with ease! In fact, that same car would be a joke to even race now...
My evo pulls like a BAT OUT OF HELL LITERALLY ALL the way up the ladder bay-bee! I'll take on any STI.... mods or not.... any time, any place! I hit it at 80..... I hear some LOUD *** whistling.... and she's up to 130 REAL QUICK!
The stock turbo is too small, the evo can make 400WHP on the stock turbo and have a good topend and hold boost to redline.
The Sti stock turbo is equilivalent to a 14b, which can't hold boost to redline and just flows hot air if you push it too much. You can't just bolt **** on a STi either you have to tune it and get around the computer.
No doubt the STi will net some serious low end torque. But the Evo will have a better mid-top end and make more power with less mods untill both upgrade to a similar turbo, after that its which ever engine can hold more power on a stock bottom end.

I dont know what the US STI 2.5L engine is based on. Maybe the legacy B4. but whatever it is, i think the JDM, europe new STI is still a better car. its still a 2L engine but with Dccd yadayada... and a new turbo similar to the evo one. But having said that: onli STi that can keep up with an Evo is the JDM Spec C which is 100kgs lighter and full race spec.

The onli STI I would consider is the STI Spec C which you guys over there do not get. Its a lightweight race version with all the good stuff. Its faster in a straight line than even the EVO RS. But I heard it takes a real good driver to maximise the potential of the car.
