Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
Still sitting on the fence. I am in Canada so there is no EVO yet. It's supposed to come and I guess I will see what they will do to the front-end to meet Canadian bumper standards - I hope it's unboltable.
Generally some thoughts on the Evo and the STI.
STI pros
displacement and torque
north/south layout of drivetrain
boxer low center of gravity
adjustable center differential
front LSD
better everyday car
better overall quality
local dealer is motorsport friendly
company actually currently participates in rallying
unflappable handling at high speed - STI spec C does better at Nurburging than Evo
6 speed transmission
club support excellent
STI cons
top mounted intercooler (heartsoak)
engine/turbo layout not ideal for turbo response
2.5 liter engine (unproven, less revs)
"feels" larger than Evo
less room on rear seats
needs $$ to feel as sharp handling as Evo (steering rack, springs, bushings)
expensive to modify
hoodscoop
Evo pros
feels like a smaller car despite larger size
handling characteristics - easier to drive quick
better engine/turbo layout for emissions/lag
FMIC
more rear legroom
less pretentious/no wannabe premium product
easily modable
2 litre engine bulletproof (iron block takes lots of boost)
higher redline
feels more hyper, more tactile
real Recaros that fit
better steering wheel
cheaper parts and service (eg, 2 cams instead of 4)
DSM expereince w/ engine
Evo cons
local dealers are crummy - warranty problems?
not available yet in Canada
east west engine layout
no LSD (but RS does)
no adjustable center diff
so-so exterior/interior quality (mechanicals are exception)
too many driven by fast and furious (but that holds true for E30 M3's as well)

well for me. i will never buy another subaru again. after i had my wrx 10000 miles the clutch and trans was taken a dump already. so thats y i got rid of that piece of crap. The evo hands down is bad ***. And plus i didn't like how the subaru dealership i went talked crap on the evo.
subaru

I went with the Evo for a few main reasons: proven track record for upgrading, took first in all the head to head comp-(overall winner that is), the look, and the fact that I did drive both before deciding- I did not feel the sti was worth the extra money

Mitsu's not so great dealership service/Customer support is the only thing that really swayed my decision. Well, that and the fact that there are more ricer type reckless drivers driving EVO's than STI's. That is my impression at least from the number of wrecked EVO posts I see. Insurance rates will not be very good unless you are a flawless driver.
MP5 scratches **** My rates for the evo are $60 a month My rates for my WRX is $105 a month. You obviously havent had any experience with SOA or service yet. You prolly hadnt noticed yout new engine deting yet either huh? The tranny isnt as strong as the 6MT (which is awesome) but its one of the best I been around. 5th might have a syncro prob but you guys get so stuck on a detail its sad

Interesting...Evo is having issues with tranny, maybe not yours(if you have one) but there are those who's trannies are ****ting at under 5k miles. Just a thought.

hmmm more reckless ricer types huh. dude your a idiot. the reason y sum evo owners trannys are giving is because sum don't know any better and do a 6 grand launch by dropping the clutch and flooring is not goin to work and they are going break. i don't need a 6th gear in my evo. the gear ratio is close enuff. i would rather have a close ratio then have a 6 speed gear box that makes u fall out of boost inbetween gears. but hey if u want to waste your money buy a subaru. i already wasted my money once and bought a wrx, but never again the evo is a real car.
anything Subaru
anything Subaru
My engine is not deting and yes I've had experience with SOA and their service. No problems at all. No I'm not bashing the Evo either.
60 a month? Very nice, you probably got the base lancer rate for the evo, but just a guess.
As for Sideways, yes reckless ricer types who like to race in the streets causing all sorts of hazards for everyday drivers. Those are the people I speak of.
Fine I'm an idiot, I've been called worse in my life time
Don't take it so personal bro, its not that serious, I'm only stating an opinion.

well thats one thing i agree on. there are a lot of ricers. but i don't really see them drive evos or sti's. the evo and sti is a high end cars. i don't think that many ricers could afford them thats y they are fixing up there saturns and dx civic's. thats all i got to say.
