which one better top end: EVO OR STI??

i drove both of the cars, like the evo, but the interior feels too cheap for a 30k price and the sti has many cool things in it, like shift light, and warning. 6-speed, center diff (i could care less about it), also the evo looks too much like a normal sedan wit a wing, where as the sti really stands out, anyway, i don't mean to bash the evo, both cars are equall to me, but i PREFER the STi. Anyway, i was just out driving around one night, about 65 F. and this spoiled high school kid, starts messing wit me, leaning out his window talking trash about the STi, well, i wasen't gonna have any of that, soo the light turned green and i took off, (empty road) this kid was an idiot, diden't even know how to get off the line properly wit a AWD turbo car, clearly bought because he saw it in the fast and the furious 2. anyway, i slowed down but he still wanted to go, so i downshifted at 40 mph, and we went all the way to 130, and i started to pull away from him at that point. I just want to know from some of u evo owners who are daring enough to ever go that fast how is the top end on ur cars?, and which car has the better topend, EVO or STi?

* i do not endorse street racing, so please don't give me **** about it, this was the first time after 2 years. (and i really wanted to give it to that punk kid)

I think the STI's top end is slightly higher than a stock Evo.. Modified is anyone's game though.. If he were a better driver I suspect you'd see it alot closer. I can tell you that personally when I first got my car, I got pulled on top end by a 2003 M3, but after I hooked up my s-afc I seem to be getting higher top speeds.

130 is a hard one to call.. both cars are capable of doing a bit more than that so at that point your using horsepower to push through the wind resistence... (Both cars are flying bricks at that speed anyway)

Hope this info helps..

I drove both too. While I do agree that the interior look of the STi is better, the Evo handled so much better that nothing else mattered to me. I bought the Evo without any hesitation.

i agree with gran on that one.

The STi has a larger engine than the Evo. Top end speed i'd have to say the STi would win...
However, these cars aren't meant for top end speed.
They're rally cars.. TWISTIES!

twisties = Evo
regular boring straight away = STi

Then again it mostly (95%) depends on the driver.

Just what you should expect from a lan evo Forum. Goto the STi forum if ya wanna be happy.

ummm, k, i know this is a evo forum, don't get my wrong, the evo looks great, but i needed something to live with everyday, and when i drove the Sti, the handling difference was to small that i really coulden't feel a difference, i admit that the evo had shaper steering, but then again i'm not gonna be at the track everyweekend, and it's not like the STi is a Suv when it comes to handling, it can out handle all other cars, and on the track the Sti was only .15 sec. slower then the evo. So in all honesty, both cars are soo close in numbers and performance that it really just comes down to personal preference. either way, i'm happy wit my Sti, and my brother has a evo, so both cars are in the family.

The sti, is limited at 155, and the evo is redline limited at 157, but anway, it's all good, anyone else have any experiances wit a STi or against another EVO?

The STi definitely has the advantage in numbers, but I don't have anywhere near enough experience with either car to even begin giving a real answer for you.

As for the looks issue, he was simply stating his opinion. I think everyone takes it for granted that Evo owners prefer the Evo, so can we please just keep this on topic?

Car and Driver claims the STI top speed is 145mph. Evo in same magazine is 156mph.

But yeah, I agree. Who cares about top end. It is all about the twisties. I'd say it is a drivers race with both of these two cars.

ur right about the quote from car and driver, i just checked and it is limited to 145, and i also agree that it dosen't matter about top end, i just wanted to know, because it seemed that i pulled away from a evo, easier then i should have and kept pulling on him, anyway, has any one drivin on the tail of the dragon, very full filling drive, hell of a get ride, my girlfriend thought we were gonna fly off the side of the mountian, well, if u haven't u should, it's in north carolina

The Evo may be faster top end, but it takes a long time to get there. I found myself on a very long arrow straight stretch of three lane highway yesturday and let my Evo have at it. I eventually hit 153 according to the HKS Type 1 peak speed hold but it took a while to get there. I do think that givin a piggy back computer and a turbo back exhaust that the mph gain up top would be much quiker, but stock the Evo just does not have crazy pull above 120.

I have raced an sti at the track but he didnt not know how to launch properly. he was pulling 13.9 at his best time at the track he wasnt stock and i was. My best time stock was 13.8 but it seemed like the sti was starting to catch up. So with a good driver i know the sti is faster 1/4th mile top end i dont know.
