Sounds good Dan. I can't wait for the results! Any idea as to how much power you are trying to make?

yeah good one, smarty. Oh no i missed the little thing that said "vishnu performance" on the dyno sheet. I'm sorry that I was looking at the more important things like the figures instead, idiot.

anyway, you'll be happy with either car. both have their advantages. in a nutshell: STI for the drag strip and EVO for the road course.

I think he was quite polite to you. He just made a simple innocent joke. You are a little too fast calling names around.

STi for a drag strip? It's cheaper and faster to get a Camaro and tune it up. Why do you think STi would be bad on a street course? Because of a couple tens of the second reviewers managed to get in EVO over STi? Strange.....

I think he meant the STI is a little better of a car as far as straight line speed which is debatable. Overall though I agree with the EVO as the better choice for a road course due to its quicker steering and tuned suspension, the STi is cushy in comparison and the seats just dont hold you.

the evo is a better car in the road course and there is no doubt about that. It's been proven and proven again. Better handling, not that "soft" feeling of the STI. And on the average I've seen more figures of STI's beating EVO's in the 1/4 mile (by professional divers in a "stock" car), but I have seen a few EVO's win (can't say that about STI's in the road course though). If you were to say that the STI is faster because of the reviewers say it is a fraction of a second faster than the evo in the 1/4, would that be strange........ ?. And please, don't gimme that Mr.Sensitive act stuff.

I'm not STI bashing.... if I was then you would definately know it. Stop being so defensive, sheesh

It's not as simple like you say.
So as you probably guessed, the STi and Evo must have been real close. In fact, they were extremely close. Final lap times resulted in the STi taking the overall best time by 1/10th of a second (in the hands of one of a Vortex staffer no less). The Evo and STi came within less than 1/100th on the top 10 averaged times. Owing perhaps to the comfort level people felt in the Evo over the STi at the limts, the averaged times closed the gap between the two cars. The drivers that were willing to put their faith in the STi were rewarded with slightly faster lap times (although still only by a tenth of a second).

Then we'd all be a bunch of babbling idiots (legally anyways) making up stories about our cars in an effort to impress the other babbling idiots on the forums. Actually, anybody who knows car guys should know that only about half of what we say is true - the rest is embellishment which is similar to garnish and condiments. Nobody likes a dry burger

Evo:
Gear Ratios
1: 2.928:1
2: 1.950:1
3: 1.407:1
4: 1.031:1
5: 0.720:1

STi:
1st - 3.636
2nd - 2.375
3rd - 1.761
4th - 1.346
5th - 0.971
6th - 0.756

The Evo's 3rd is roughly the STi's 4th...

Put the final drive ratios in and calculate the max gear speeds. The Evo FDR is much more aggressive. The sucky part about the STi is that it has to upshift to 5th in the 1/4 mile, and 5th is VERY TALL and spaced too far from 4th. Its like the car almost has two overdrive gears. Before that, its uber short and very close. The main complaint I had about my WRX was the crappy gear spacing between 3rd and 4th. The STi still has the problem, but one shift up.

Evo gear speeds at 7000rpm:
1st: 40mph
2nd: 60mph
3rd: 83mph
4th: 113mph
5th: 162mph
(4.529:1)

STi gear speeds at 7000rpm:
1st: 37mph
2nd: 56mph
3rd: 76mph
4th: 99mph
5th: 137mph OUCH!!!!
6th: 176mph
(3.90:1)

As you can see, the STi's 5th is way too tall. It should be something shorter than a .971 gear, and something exciting like a 1.07 gear that would allow it to redline 5th at 125mph instead. As it is stacked, the ratio spacing is crappy, IMO.

Why did I restore this old thred you may ask? Because it was near the top! My display for Evom from Safari just puts random old threads near the front sometimes. I have NO IDEA why.
