Have an evo im looking at and need some opinions

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX
$18,995102,536 mi
It has from what I can see an aftermarket metal pipe intake and boost controller from what it looks like.
The dealer doesn't have much up about this car so I wanted to take a drive and look a look at it. Any key things I need to look at to see how this car has been driven? First time buying an evo so I just don't want to get screwed. I hope it's ok to post this here.. Thank you any info will help.

If you can find a evo shop that is near you i would take it on a test test drive and have them look it over

If and when you test drive it, make sure you put it in what ever is the highest gear and floor it to test for clutch slippage.

ask the seller if the timing belt/water pump has been done, with 102k on it id hope it would have been done already but if not ask to see if theyd lower the price, 19k for an 06 with 102k on it seems a little pricey, i paid 18k for my 04 with 72k on it. I got in a rush and bought it n it ended up needing new front wheel bearings, front n rear pads and rotors n the previous tune was done half assed, Hopefully your experience will go alot smoother than mine.

Hey thanks a lot for the info and advice i really appreciate it!! This is the other one i have in mind because of the year. Only weird thing is there are no pics under the hood. So pretty much make sure it doesn't grind and the clutch doesn't flop. Now what are mods that would be non substantial to hurting the engine? Meaning if they were done to the car it isn't something of huge concern? Also I really want an opion from evo owners about the difference between the 6spd and the 5spd, obvious it's another gear but how does that effect the cars performance in acceleration, and also would that give the car a higher top end speed?

THANK YOU ALL THIS IS AN AWESOME FORUM

Drpending what your plans are for the car and power the 5 speed is the stronger option.

I know this is going to sound stupid but why is that? Is it because their are less gears and you can pull more power out of the gears? I pretty much want quick acceleration, Ive done research and believe the one im looking at already has a stock 0-60 of 4.4s well atleast thats what the interweb says. Some of the info is fishy on the sights. It is obviously pretty quick stock but i want to bring it down to like at least 4 flat and keep it stock looking exterior. Make it a sleeper in other words.
