Looking for evo 8/9 for 14k possible?
I understand what you're going through, but hold out for the right one as deals can be found. The only reason resale on these cars is so high is because there's too many idiots out there with more money (or credit) than brains and they pay the ridiculous prices people are asking. Unfortunately, as these same idiots blow up their cars the price inflates due to decreasing supply.
With supply dwindling and demand increasing, you have a car that hold its value strongly
Bad for buyer but good for seller
Not a bad thing at all
I've been on the lookout for an 8 or 9 for the last year already and the prices just seem to be rising. In my neck of the woods salvage title evos are going for 17K! Some 9's with 100k miles on it are going for 20-24K.
I don't mind the increase in the price, I just know that when I do pick up an Evo someday, the prices will just plummet and I'll feel like an idiot with a car that needs maintenance and no money.(kinda like the stock market) Funny thing is prices of STi's are dropping to the 14K-17K range for clean title ones.
And then there's Evos that pop up once in a while for cheap that are clean title, but are modded in all the wrong ways. Just keep saving and searching, itll be worth it in the end.

I bought mine in March of this year. 2003, 66k miles, bone stock, super clean, brand new tires, all service up to date with receipts, garage kept, one owner for $15,750. It has been in Texas its whole life so there's not even a thought of rust. The guy said he figured it would be worth 10k and was shocked that KBB said 17k. Although I'll pay more in the end than I would have by buying a modded one knowing that everything that's been done to the car was done by me is worth the peace of mind.
i only make $10 an hour but live at home while working on my career
i am 19 and dont plan to leave home soon as my parents are old and need me around
i pay 30 a mouth for full coverage on my oz rally so i caint imange an evo will be that much and i dont drive alot 20 miles avg a day

I dont care if it needs body work I plan to do a custom paint job anyways unless its pristen. I might just wait to get a newer X for around 25k
i have 11,000 in the bank and a car worth 4k.

Overpriced? Whats overpriced to you? KBB lists an EVO IX GSR with 80,000 in excellent condition for $20,000 ? Even if its in the worst shape (fair) its still over $17000? Where is the logic? And if your going by market value like most cars on Evom, they are going for MORE than that.
yea seems like you want an evo in great shape for nothing some are in rough shape and you can get them cheap gl tho also tight budgets with these cars are not smart maintance, tires ect get pricey espeically for a daily

So $14k for a car that may KBB for over $20k? Not to mention what might have been done to the car in mods. Good luck with your search kid, hopefully you will not be too shocked by the cost of fixing what is messed up by the previous owner, maintenance, and insurance.
Your best bet for that price is one with a salvage title. Or just hold off on getting the car for a while longer.

My advice is buy an old dsm, a talon tsi or eclipse gsx. Both cars will give you great performance and hands on experience you will need when owning a evo. Yes it's not what you want but they are fairly cheap and can be just as easy to modify. Let's not forget the insurance money you save is a bonus as well. Face it you'll look really stupid when you have no money to hangout with the guys or that cute chick you just met.
I hate to break it to you, but it doesn't sound like an Evo is a good fit for you. The Evo that you are hoping to find is not going to be anywhere near what you want to pay for it. Call Even though you save money by living at home, it's going to be a stretch if you're making $10/hour. Your insurance might be cheap now, but watch it skyrocket when adding an Evo on, assuming you get comprehensive/collision coverage. It's a BIG difference.
The cars go for a lot because there is a demand for them, as the car has a solid following... just like the Supra and ITR. Both of those are long out of production, but still fetch quite a bit when they hit the market.
