Question about acd fluid

Question about acd fluid

I was curious if the acd reservoir fluid is solely for the acd or does it provide fluid for anything else. Thanks for helping a noob out

Use OEM stuff, I don't even know of any aftermarket equivalents.

OEM stuff is Diamond ATF SP III - part number ACH1ZC1X05

I use Mitsubishi Diamond ATF SP III. I have heard of others using some type valvoline of valvoline or redline ATF though.

Thanks guys, to be clear I haven't heard of anyone doing fluid changes on the acd?

After trying out various fluids I say stick with oem. If I recall the equivalent is chrysler atf +4 ATF.. Ive used Castrol,redline, and oem. They all worked fine but I would recommend the oem stuff.

As far as changing/flushing out the fluids, its easy to service. You can suck some out of the reservoir, open up the drain nipple on the transfer case, close it back up, top off, prime the pump, check the fluid level, prime again, check fluid level again, repeat as needed.. To prime, just put the key in position 2, push the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold It for a few seconds. The pump will run for a few seconds and shut off by itself, then you can release the pedal and check your fluid levels.

I bled it like this after draining my system when I relocated my acd pump. It Bled good and working fine.

Does this need to be flushed at certain times? I have 113k on her now and I haven't once touched the ACD setup or reservoir.

According to Mitsu you don't need to ever flush it. I'm not a believer in lifetime fluids though. At the very least I would just suck out and replenish the fluid in the reservoir. That will get like 80% of the fluid from the system. The acd system doesnt use up a whole lot of fluid.

There has been a lot of debate over the Mitsubishi SP-III having very poor cold climate viscosity.
However it's very difficult to find the MSDS sheet or any info on the fluid.

However SP-III is the same fluid used in Kia/Hyundai/Mitsubishi automatic transmissions.

Luckily there are tons of compatible fluids. The redline D4 fluid and the royal purple max atf have very superior cold climate viscosities and I'd highly recommend that if you run your car in cold climates.
This in turn will help the pump operate much more efficiently versus a very heavy fluid at cold temperatures.

Exactly. Mine was always OK with stock and I live in Colorado.
