When I had the blue car built I wanted to go with a stock frame setup. After the turbo and any tubular manifold you are looking at big frame turbo money. SO I kept my kit. Not worth the hassle of getting low balled and essentially spending the same money. I knew i didn't need alot of power....its a mainly street driven vehicle and they do NOT play in North Carolina.
A properly sized twinscroll turbo setup would be competitive with a FP Black....hell possibly a red. Those turbo's are great and the fact they are ball bearing now is a testament to FP and CBRD's technical prowess but the cost of entry is so high now that it really does price it out of the market.
I bet if FP still offered JB stockframe turbo's those would still sell well.....then the cost of entry makes more sense.

I know tons of people that think it would be way cheaper to do a stock frame but like I was saying that's not really the case maybe you misunderstood me because you pretty much stated what I was saying to begin with. The reason people would think it is cheaper is because most people don't get a stock evo and go straight to a t3 turbo. They do full bolt ons first. And people are cheap that's how it is so instead of $800-$1100 just in a manifold they get an fp turbo to keep the stock one and port it. Or buying a downpipe for a second time. Sure you could buy eBay stuff and have it crack or not fit rightOriginally Posted by DSMolition
Are you high? Who would think that... Its so much cheaper to go with a pte based turbo with a decent manifold. IT does not take anything to make a vband dp or have one made. Dont get me wrong fp is grate

Im happy with my FP Black. Car is an awesome street car, hence my motor selection as well. I dont need a 7,8,900hp car that is blowing through clutches, tanks and tanks of e85, running at 9,10,11k rpms. To me, not too many mechanical things like that type of power or rpms. I want to get in a car that is fun and gets from a to b without issues.
My car I feel does that very well at ~500whp. Can be scary at times whomping on it which keeps it fun. Do I do this everywhere I go....NO. I drive like a normal human being that realizes that there are other people on the road and I'm in a ~3,000 lb life ending metal car.

I too am happy with my BB Black, I dont have their newest version, but I do have my setup currently externally gated. But I am swapping to a forward facing Black setup for this season to go a little outside of the norm for the stock frame turbos. We'll see how it goes. I know for sure it would have been cheaper to buy a kit, but at this point, I'm just pushing the limits and having fun. My motors already built and I have all the supporting mods, so why not have a little fun

I'd buy a kit out of piece of mind. Nothing is more annoying to find the manifold from fabricator X places your turbo in position A, only to find the downpipe from fabricator Y won't connect without an act from God.Originally Posted by DSMolition
I can see that, maybe I took that the wrong way. I guess i would never buy a "kit" so my point of view is biased.
Now I will say this, FP's lead time has gotten silly. I'm past week 8 (58 days) since ordering and still have yet to see my Red. If time is money, or if you didn't plan 3/4 months out, what's the point in ordering?

i think it all depends on what u want. thats what keeps this market going. u dont "need" to make more power or run the fasted track times, or beat every v8 in town. people "want" to. this could be said about more than just turbos. i wanted an fp, just so i can say to people when they ask "its a stock frame turbo." then their mind is blown. i literally spent a whole 6 months trying to decide if i wanted a buschur 35r kit, or an FP black. i finally settled on an FP black, and i have no regrets. now im running the FP black with a stock manifold and heat shield.
It is "cheaper" and easier because you can do it a la carte. You don't have to commit to custom mani, DP, etc etc with (some) stock frame.
Also, some people do supporting mods first and change turbos last. Crazy, I know.
But if you are buying everything all at once it doesn't matter.
I don't have to worry about looking stock around here, but I still like the idea of a stock frame turbo because I am not after big power and I like FP and the way that they do business and how they innovated for both the DSM and the Evo.

You kinda do now I don't know if you have seen the new fp turbo set up but it isn't a direct replacement from what I understand the manifold is ok for the new set up but as for the rest vband o2 housing, external waste gate, dump tube, etc...Originally Posted by GPTourer

That got sprung us rather abruptly; spoke with one of their vendors last night on that, they are changing some of the existing orders to this housing which is not the best when you sold for direct bolt-on.Originally Posted by vito93

Newbie
Stock IX turbo and E-85 is all you need in these cars for a more than fun car. Unless you are all about the frum rollz.

What is a good T3 Twin Scroll setup that would spool up like a DBB Red but make good power and hold it.
Is there a setup like that 550+ pump gas?

Sure? Would that do it? Spool like a red but make good power up top and achieve a power goal of 500-550 whp ?Originally Posted by michaelrc51
