EVO IX gears

So I am going to send my Transmission into Shep to have the stage 1 rebuild. I am also having the REM ISF process done. I have an evo 8 (5 speed) that will be pushing upper 500 whp on a mustang dyno in a couple months.

My question is, is it worth the extra cash to upgrade to the Evo IX first and fifth gears? In other words does it make a big difference? Also what does upgrading to these gears do, are they just taller?

I feel kind of noobish asking, but I haven't been able to find any solid threads on this. Thanks!

Thinking if I remember correctly, the change offers a closer ratio set up--- but maybe you already answered your own question if upon research you couldn't find any conclusive opinion on the mod and its distinct benefits---then maybve it wasn't all it was cracked up to be--at least not what you will be using it for-- maybe for a quick ration gearbox for drag racing or road racing I could see it.

I forgot to mention that my car is a daily driver and will see some 1/4 passes every now and then. Not sure if that matters.

The evo 8 trans has pretty good ratios to begin with. I don't think I would spend the 200-300 on the evo 9 first gear to get 6-8 mph. The 5th gear you could change if you wanted to . It will shorten the gap between 4th and 5th . This will be a little easier on the weak 5th gear syncro.
If you plan on going over 135-140 in the 1/4 then you can think about the 4.11 upgrade. A 4.11 gear also makes all the gears taller and you aren't shifting every 3 seconds.

Do you have an 03-04 trans? There were alot of updates from the 03-04 to the 05 unit. It may be more expensive to get it refreshed. There were 2 brand new 05 transmissions left a few months ago in the country. Incase you want to put one on the list.

I did a ton of research over the weekend and decided 4.11 gears aren't for me...with my current goals anyway. I have an 03 trans.

So shortening the gap between 4th and 5th...what does that mean exactly?
