400HP goal with E85, what other parts am i missing??
The tuner told me that is perfect for what i got now but for e85 he thinks i would need a better pump. I've done alot of research on here and i know alot of evo guys use walbro 255 without a problem.
gotta look into it, i just know when everyone is talking about e85 no one ever mentions ethanol gauge so i dont know anything about it.
That's because even a ****ty batch of E85 is still more knock resistant than 93. It was mentioned in another thread on here that even E70 is still better than 93. Unless you are running a ***** to the wall super aggressive tune with no wiggle room or margin for error, then yeah, you maybe would want a content gauge. If your tune is safe and from a reputable tuner experienced with E85, you'll be fine. E85 is not 100% knock resistant, but pretty damn close. Biggest worry you could have is pre-ignition if your tune is running you rich, but otherwise you'll be fine.

thanks for the good info. Ill discuss these things with the tuner and see what happens. Its gonna be some time before i get tuned for e85.
lol true story. Really all a tester is going to do is show you that not every batch is truly E85. But then again the fuel companies do not claim that every batch is E85. "E85" is a naming convention the fuel industry agreed on for uniformity. Otherwise they'd need to keep a chalk board next to each pump and change the percentage each week when they get a new supply in. One week it's E82, the next it's E70. Yeah, good luck with that. I'm fine with E70 or 82 or whatever. It's still 100+octane and more knock resistant than 93 or even 100oct "race" fuel.
I disagree, E85 with less ethanol content will cause high knock count, under load and or high RPM!
A tester or gauge would be the first thing on the list! Walbro 255 pumps can, and do fail on E85.
I know some people will say if you don't drive in high boost, and have a safe tune that running less than E85 is safe. The only problem with that is anyone that runs E85 wants high HP! Or what's the point? Start looking in the forum for high HP Evos that had engine failure, and a lot of the time, low ethanol content and high boost was probably the reason for it!

E70 is still greater than 93 octane. It's still safe as long as you have a good tune. That's assuming the batch is so crappy that it's E70. Above that you should be fine, but again, if you have a good tune!

Man! all this stuff makes me almost not get e85. Just sounds like a lot of headache I might get involved in.
Weigh your options carefully. I recently had to burn a tank of the stuff to get to the track....Not bad...but there was none there, so I transported 25 gallons of the stuff in the trunk, then had to bring a support vehicle for the rest of my things.
It can be a PITA. Some of us have issues with it gumming up injectors, so we run a tank of pump every once in a while. Planning on when and where to run out to switch over is a hassle. I only have one pump in town. If I want to do a road trip, I have to take two gal of pump so I can swap on the way. I sure hope that's enough, etc.
For me, it's only useful on track days. I'm tired of draining my tank.
