help: t case, or transmission leak?

Hello everyone, I am new here and recently bought a stock 2005 evo 8 with a 2 month old clutch. I noticed some leaks by the driver side/transmission area. The axle that goes into the transfer case is free of leaks, but I see that its wet/oily where the t case and transmission meet. I attached some pics. Much appreciated, thanks!

That's exactly what I did, I cleaned it up and that's the leak from two days later. I just don't know what to replace or fix. Thanks for the advice!

Anyone else have the same problem? Maybe whoever did the clutch messed up on something small.

I bought my evo a few months ago and it had had a new clutch not too long ago and I had a leak around there. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. Anyway, there are 3 seals on the transfer box so I thought it was one of them, but after my mechanic mate done some digging it turned out it was the o-ring the goes on the outside of the seal between the transfer box and gearbox (If I remember rightly). Let me know if you want the part number, I think I've still got the receipt around here somewhere

Thanks! I could use that part number if you don't mind. Is it something I can fix in the garage or does it require a shop to take apart my transmission?

I'll need to have a look in my paper recycling for the receipt in the morning (it's 4am here now) but like I said, there are 3 main seals on the transfer box and then this spring loaded o-ring that goes inbetween the gearbox and transfer box, so if you ring mitsubishi they should know what you mean. I'll let you know if I find it though. They only cost me a few quid per seal so if I were you I'd just buy all of the ones near the leak to cover all bases and minimise car downtime. Assuming it's one of them seals it just an on the ramp job. I don't think he had to remove the subframe either

Turns out I didn't bin it. I guess it's the same part number for your 8

The number is: MD727944

I hope that helps

Looks like engine oil to me. You can try putting in dye in the transmission, clean everything up, and see if the fresh fluid leaking has the dye. If its not, clean it up again, put dye in the transfercase and repeat. If the new leak has the dye, then you know where it came from and can concentrate on that. If not, then move on to the engine oil, and so on.

Thanks guys. I know the oil pan has a small leak for sure, which will be fixed soon, but when I cleaned everything down there the leak still came from the transmission/driver side area. I'm guessing the gasket/seal went bad. What do you guys think?
