Brief/abrupt lose of power when in boost?

having a problem i need some help with.

sometimes when in boost it suddenly and abruptly looses its power. the engine doesn't die or anything weird when this happens.

no CEL's

I'm thinking the likely culprit is a boost leak. but it's odd that it doesn't happen every time i go into boost?

if you have a viable idea please let me know

please no joke or un-thought out out answers...

Thanks,
Alex

for some reason my spark plug socket doesnt fit over the plug... looks like it doesn't have enough room in the channel on sides around the plug? never had this problem with it on previous cars

Ignition or fuel cut, change and gap the plugs first...go from there

You have the wrong socket.
If I have to guess it's a combo of boost leak and improper plugs/gaps. Fix those easy issues first, then ask more questions.

Does your evo still have the "snorkle" for the air box?

If so, check to see if the tabs that hold it in place are broken.

If they are, if is sucking up against the hood and choking the engine off out of air.

I could be way off but it's worth a check.

i checked and changed the plugs and it did it again after words but finally threw a code this time

P0234- Overboost

its factory tune and the vacuum lines to the boost solenoid seem fine. my guess is the factory boost solenoid is starting to crap out on me?

Sounds like boost leak. Had the same problem when I still had the factory tune. The same code. Turned out it was a small crack in the intercooler. The car was spiking to 22psi and cutting out. Do a boost leak test.
