Jb FP Red

Alright evo people. I have read and researched a ton lately about everything while my car is getting built. Here is the question.

I am going to run the Jb Fp Red on a 2.0 long rod build with the fp oil line from the filter. My goals will be later being able to auto x and track the car around 5-7 times a season. It is also my dd with occasional throttle punches on the highway. I know I know the ball bearing is the way to go but, seriously is buying the jb just a waste and am I throwing the 1k bucks down the drain going that route? I don't want to do that. If i keep the car in a straight line and give it hell will i have issues with oil starvation?

I would like to upgrade the evo 9 to the red but another 1500 just can't happen right now. I actually think my wife just tried to kill me so adding another 1500 could actually drive the dagger further.

My other question would be regarding the evo 9 bov. Running a crushed 9 bov and keeping the psi around 30 on e85 is that just dumb and not going to happen? If so what would work well on the stock upper pipe.

Thanks all!
Chad

If you want to stay with journal bearing, get a green.

What's the difference in their journal bearings? Wouldn't I be running into the same issue?

The red will feel lazy with JB chra due to the larger compressor. The green is still a fun responsive turbo in JB form.

i would think the green would be a better choice for autox. for track i think the red will do fine.

The jb FP Red is really a great all around turbo. I had the 64mm Red and didn't find it to lazy (in my opinion) for dailey driving, or impulsive romps on the highway, and it's certainly no slouch as a drag race monster for anyone that's willing.

I let a Mustang enthusiast drive my car and he thought for sure that a 450+hp 4cylinder would have to be compromised with no A/C and a very laggy turbo and he was impressed with the response and thrill that the car gave him.

I don't know about using a FP Red for auto x because I never used it that way, but I would imagine the Green would be a tad bit better for that type of racing if you had to find some reason to knock it. All in all, if I had to do it again, I'd get a FP Red in a heartbeat and not think twice about.

The JB red I drive was an 84mm cover. It makes a big difference in feel. And I fee like the 84mm anti surge cover is needed. Going with a ball bearing brought back a lot of the responce the 84mm cover took away..

I have a JB Red, 484hp with it but it is somewhat laggy in low rpms it takes a second to spool, but once that baby spools up you better hang on. I had the FP HTA71 before which was great for auto X

I also have the fp red. I kind of want the fp black. Is there a big difference in spool from the 2 in jb?
