05 Mr, Tranny Max Hp
Its not the HP its the torque. 400tq (as was already stated) tends to be the most you want to push and still keep it reasonably reliable. When I had a 6spd I ran it around at close to 400 lbs-ft for a few years and its was fine, still shifted great.
You can go a lot higher than 400wtq.
I was pushing 542whp and 490+ wtq and never a problem driving my 8 MR Running fpblack, meth and a built long block. It was like the power of god! when passing i would pass 10 cars at once lol.
When i sold her she was just a little detuned but still had 490+wtq. The new owner never complained once about the trans!
Even now my tuned X MR is at almost 370wtq and no problem for the past over 70k miles tuned.
Ivey FTW!!!!!

You can make more power, you need a bigger turbo. If you hold 400wtq flat to redline it'll make about 525-550whp up top. I wouldn't push the 6 speed much past 400wtq. It just makes more heat, and heat brakes stuff. Especially with the way the shafts flex in the 6 speed. It's great some people get away with it, but it's not recommended.
i think it has more to do with how you drive it than how much power. the 6 speeds are prone to overheating so if you drive it around town and do a few blasts down the road or drag strip now and then, its probably gonna take a ton of power but if you wanna be ricky bobby or stig jr, youre gonna need a cooler or a 5 speed.
theres a thread somewhere here where the gears were measured on the 5 and 6 speed to compare them, and the 6 speed's 1st and 2nd were actually wider than the 5 speed ones. just keep the trans temp under control and its going to live a lot longer.
