Downpipe question.

Just picked up an Evo IX with an external wastegate/screamer pipe. It's far too loud for my taste. I was wondering which downpipe (recirculating) would go best with my setup. Built 2.0. Buschur tubular mani with an hta35r. Are these all universal? I just want the best bang for my buck. So far MAP seems to be best at $494. Thanks all!!

I would ebay that DP :} Make sure it's one for the IX so it will clear the frame and transfer case. Go full stainless if you could afford it.

Thanks for the quick response. I just spoke to someone at Buschur and he said that all of their big turbo kits come with an O2 dump. He said that other downpipe will not fit this specific kit and that I would need something custom.

If this is true, I'd be worried about the welds of whoever I had custom fab it. I know how hot that thing gets. Has anyone else with the same Buschur kit ran a recirculating Wastegate into the exhaust? I can take pictures if need be.

Thanks all! Hope to hear from someone who has went through the same experience.

Maybe just have someone custom make a recirc into your existing downpipe? Can't imagine that would be too tough, just cut a length out of the external dump, cut a hole into the downpipe then weld/slip a like sized piece of pipe onto the end and weld into the downpipe farther down.

I was considering that and then I began remembering reading about how hot these things actually get. Isk how well someone could weld this thing up. I'm not familiar with the area since I just moved. I'll ask around, but is this something an exhaust shop would normally do? Or just a custom fab shop?

Post a pic of your O2 housing and we'll go from there.

It's a down pipe, not the space shuttle. If someone can weld, it'll be fine. Take it somewhere that builds high performance cars and they will be able to take care of it.

Check out Origin Fabrication on facebook. They are in atlanta and do really nice work. I'm sure he could make something custom for you. Contact them and see if they fit your needs. awhit17 on here is friends with the owner and responds quickly to PMs. I bought his recirculated downpipe that Origin made. It is a very nice piece.

Anyone that is good at welding can do it really, but as some other people have said, try to find a good performance shop to do it. It'll most likely be cheaper than buying a new down pipe and you won't have to sacrifice quality. I'd give Topspeed Motorsports a call and see what they can do for you. They are out of Alpharetta, and I've heard some good things about them even down here in Columbus.

This is what the origin piece looks like. It replaces the o2 housing, downpipe and test pipe.

So I called up Buschur directly and they said I'll have to go the custom route unfortunately. Hopefully the welds hold but I found a pretty promising shop. Thanks for the replies!

Why is that unfortunate? You'll be saving money, and have a "custom" downpipe. That's good news all around!

I guess I just assumed picking up a downpipe from MAP or another good name would last me longer. Then again, I'm new here. Still learning!

Its all the same... If it's stainless steel it shouldn't go any sooner than any other brand name downpipe. Besides, it's just gonna be a small section that will cost next to nothing.

Ibbs,
You are running a custom BR HTA35r kit, thus, only BR has the fabrication jig to make you another recirculating dumptube/O2/downpipe combination because the manifold position with respect to the turbo is unique.
The picture posted above will not work because it is made for a stock frame type of turbo with an internal wastegate.

Your best bet is to go to your local wedl/fabrication shop and ask them to quote recirculating the current dump tube into the down pipe. Otherwise, you can ask BR if they still have the jig for your manifold and could make you a new piece to fit your needs.
