Evo 8 build or sell as is.??
Evo 8 build or sell as is.??
I'm new to the community bit hope to get solid advice. I currently have a 03 Evo with 89k on it, was tuned with just under 400hp to the wheels before it spun a rod bearing. Now I'm stuck with what t do, build it swap a engine or sell it as is. I know cost to build, not sure best places to get used engine..?..last question is how much do you think it's worth$$.... It has ets intercooler pipe, 3" exhaust, werks 301 fuel pump with fic 1120 injectors. Ran it with e85 few times.(tuned for it). Also has new brakes and tires all around as well as a short shifter. Body is good/fair. No major damage.. Thanks for any help or advice!
Only you can decide what to do. Repairing it and selling it will likely result in a loss unless you find a steal on a cheap used motor, and then don't say anything about replacing the engine. Built motor cars almost always go for less than stock motor cars unless the car has complete total build done.
If you like the car, it's definitely worth it to build it, keep it, and enjoy it. Plan to spend $6k-$10k depending on what you do with the motor rebuild (within reason) if you're going to pay a shop to do it.

I see this question come up from time to time
My advice -- if you're going to sell the car, buy a used motor, repair then sell it
Selling "as is" always results in the seller taking a hit much greater than if he were to pay out of pocket to have everything repaired first
As far as building it goes (in my personal experience) once I've gotten to the point of actually putting a car up for sale, i've become emotionally disconnected from it. I've done it in the past: put a car up for sale then take it back down when the calls start calling in because I don't think I want to part with my project anymore.... Sooner than later it comes back around and I end up selling it anyway

how much do you like your car? r u mechanically inclined? can you take the head off, send send in the bottom end to a machine shop, and then put it back together? you can save a lot of money doing as much of the work yourself. im just gonna take a guesse and say between a G or 2 for the rebuild depending if your crank is good or not. take your time and think it out. 400hp is pretty nice. with good internals you will be good for maybe 600plus. good luck man. try to keep it
